Owen Electric is one of the fastest-growing electrical contractors in the Southeast, specializing in large-scale commercial, industrial, and mission-critical construction projects. As our Industrial & Data Center division continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and continuously improve our company-wide safety culture and performance.
Position Summary
The Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading Owen Electric's safety strategy across all industrial, data center, and commercial operations. This executive-level position provides leadership to regional and project-level safety personnel while partnering closely with operations, executive leadership, project teams, and clients to ensure world-class safety performance.
The ideal candidate possesses extensive electrical construction safety experience, a proven ability to build and mentor safety teams, and a strong background supporting large-scale industrial and mission-critical projects. This role requires significant travel and oversight of multiple active projects throughout the Southeast.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all company safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
- Lead and develop a team of Regional Safety Managers, Safety Managers, and Project Safety Professionals.
- Establish and maintain a proactive safety culture focused on employee engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company standards, and client-specific safety requirements.
- Partner with executive leadership and operations teams to integrate safety into all aspects of project execution.
- Develop annual safety goals, performance metrics, and improvement initiatives.
- Analyze company-wide safety trends, leading indicators, and incident data to identify opportunities for risk reduction.
- Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Lead company-wide safety training, leadership development, and competency programs.
- Support project teams with risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning, and high-risk activity reviews.
- Maintain relationships with clients, general contractors, regulatory agencies, and third-party safety organizations.
- Participate in executive project reviews, strategic planning meetings, and operational leadership discussions.
- Oversee safety audits, inspections, and compliance documentation across all projects.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance employee safety, operational excellence, and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction safety experience.
- 5+ years in a leadership role managing safety personnel and programs.
- Strong background supporting electrical construction projects.
- Experience overseeing safety operations across multiple projects and geographic regions.
- Industrial and/or hyperscale data center construction experience strongly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated success building safety culture and influencing organizational change.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software platforms.

- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)

Travel Requirements
- Extensive travel throughout the Southeast.
- Ability to support multiple projects and regions simultaneously.
- Regular overnight travel required.
- Frequent presence on active construction jobsites.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites daily.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
