Collision estimator job description:

Conduct thorough inspections of damaged vehicles to assess the extent of collision damage and document findings.
Utilize industry-standard software and tools to generate accurate and detailed estimates for repair costs, including parts, labor, and materials.
Collaborate with insurance companies and adjusters to negotiate fair and competitive repair estimates and ensure timely approval of claims.
Provide exceptional customer service by explaining repair estimates, answering questions, and keeping clients informed throughout the repair process.
Order necessary replacement parts and ensure their timely delivery to meet repair schedules.
Work closely with the auto body repair technicians to communicate repair requirements, updates, and any additional findings that may affect the estimate.
Continuously update knowledge of automotive industry trends, repair techniques, and pricing to maintain accurate estimates.
Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all estimates, repairs, and communications with clients and insurance companies.
Adhere to safety standards and regulations, promoting a safe working environment for all staff and customers.
Identify potential hidden damages and supplementary repair needs, documenting them for discussion with insurance adjusters and customers.
Collaborate with the shop manager and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality repairs.
Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally and strive to resolve any issues to the customer's satisfaction.
Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance estimating skills and stay informed about advancements in automotive repair techniques.

Experience:

Previous experience working as an Auto Body Collision Estimator or in a similar role within the automotive repair industry is highly desirable.
Proficiency in conducting accurate and comprehensive vehicle inspections to assess collision damage.
Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software and tools for generating repair cost estimates.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with insurance companies, adjusters, and customers to obtain approval for repair estimates and resolve any disputes.
Experience in ordering and managing replacement parts to ensure timely repair completion.
Knowledge of automotive repair techniques, repair procedures, and industry best practices.
Understanding of safety regulations and practices related to auto body repair.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with post-secondary education in automotive technology or a related field.
Certification or training in auto body collision estimating is a plus, such as ASE Collision Estimator certification & ICar.
Strong mathematical skills to accurately calculate repair costs and estimates.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with customers, insurance representatives, and other team members.
Attention to detail and the ability to identify hidden damages and supplementary repair needs.
Proficiency in using computers and software for estimating, record-keeping, and communication purposes.
Customer service-oriented mindset to provide exceptional service and address customer inquiries and concerns.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple estimates and repair jobs efficiently.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while maintaining quality standards.
