About the Internship
Insights Lc is seeking a highly motivated graduate student to support an applied research initiative focused on aviation safety, human performance, and AI-assisted narrative analysis. This internship provides an opportunity to apply data science, natural language processing (NLP), taxonomy development, and emerging AI technologies to large-scale operational datasets and real-world safety challenges. The selected candidate will contribute to research efforts aimed at identifying safety trends, improving classification frameworks, and advancing AI-assisted analytics capabilities.
Responsibilities
● Analyze structured and unstructured aviation safety datasets
● Develop and maintain text-processing pipelines to ingest, clean, classify, and organize narrative data
● Apply NLP techniques to identify emerging safety trends, patterns, and insights
● Conduct taxonomy analysis and recommend enhancements to existing classification frameworks
● Use Python and AI-assisted analytical methods to support research objectives
● Collaborate with fellow researchers and interns to prepare structured evidence packages and re search deliverables
● Create visualizations and exploratory analyses to communicate findings effectively
● Document methodologies, results, and research outputs in a clear and organized manner
Qualifications
Required
● Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Candidates requiring Curricular Practical Training (CPT) are encouraged to apply if they meet their university's eligibility requirements and can obtain CPT authorization prior to the internship start date.
●Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Science, or a related field
● Experience using Python for data analysis, data preparation, and automation
● Experience applying Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to large collections of textual data
● Knowledge of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI-assisted analytical workflows
● Experience developing taxonomies, classification schemes, ontologies, or related knowledge organization frameworks using data-driven approaches
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
● Experience with Python libraries such as pandas, NumPy, spaCy, NLTK, scikit-learn, or similar tools
● Experience with data visualization tools and techniques
● Familiarity with prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or AI-assisted research workflows
● Research, internship, or project experience involving real-world datasets
● Interest or experience in aviation, transportation safety, human factors, safety management systems, or risk analysis
