The Part-Time Operations Agent supports airport-wide operations within the Airport Operations Center (AOC). This position is responsible for maintaining safe, secure, and efficient airport operations through real-time coordination, communications, regulatory compliance, and incident response support.
This role functions as an operational position performing AOC-based coordination duties, ensuring continuous situational awareness, communication, and operational support during assigned shifts. Responsibilities include coordinating aircraft movements and airport operational activities, assisting the Incident Commander during airport emergencies, and coordinating with mutual aid agencies, tenants, and other airport stakeholders. The position requires the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment, adapt quickly to evolving procedures and operational priorities, and maintain professional telephone etiquette with clear, concise, and effective communication at all times.
The incumbent will receive structured training on airfield operations and airport badging office procedures to support airport safety and security when staffing or operational needs require. Incumbent must successfully qualify as an authorized airfield driver and Part 139 airfield inspector prior to progressing into full AOC operational duties and responsibilities.
Maximum: Up to 29 hours per week
Typical schedule: 3-4 shifts per week
Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
During the first two months of training, hours will be flexible and primarily scheduled between 0800-1600 or 1400-2200
Evening Shift: Monday - Wednesday 1400-2200; Thursday 1400-1900

Airport Operations Center (AOC) Functions

Monitor airport operational status, airfield conditions, and weather impacts in real time
-
Coordinate airportwide communications between Airside, Landside, Maintenance, tenants, and emergency services
-
Maintain operational logs, shift reports, and situational awareness documentation
-
Dispatch and coordinate operational responses to developing airport events
-
Support incident command structure during emergencies and abnormal operations
-
Prepare and disseminate mass notifications and operational alerts
-
Track and prioritize operational requests, work orders, and service impacts
-
Serve as the initial point of contact for incoming telephone calls to the Airport Operations Center
-
Provide accurate, timely general airport information or appropriately direct inquiries to the correct agency or department

Route and/or coordinate inquiries related to:

TSA screening procedures and passenger security processes

Airport security and access control requirements, including badging procedures

Airline and flight information (or appropriate airline/FAA/tenant referral)

Rental car services, parking, and ground transportation options
-
Customer service concerns, complaints, or service recovery requests

Demonstrate professional telephone etiquette, clear communication, and a customerserviceoriented approach at all times

Ensure inquiries are documented and forwarded appropriately when operational followup is required

Support enforcement of Airport Rules and Regulations

Send immediate notifications regarding airport incidents, emergencies, and unusual operational events

Assist the Incident Commander during airport emergency operations

Coordinate with mutual aid agencies including fire, law enforcement, and EMS
-
Support Snow and Ice Control Team operations and severe weather response

Participate in restoration of normal airport operations following disruptions

Coordinate with tenants, airlines, contractors, and airport stakeholders

Maintain professional communication via radio, telephone, and electronic systems
-
Demonstrate professional telephone etiquette and clear, concise communication at all times
-
Foster collaborative working relationships across airport departments and external agencies
-
Complete structured training program in airfield operations and the airport badging office
-
Progress into full AOC operational duties upon successful completion of required training and certifications
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Ability to pass FBI fingerprint background check

Strong communication and multitasking skills

Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays

Ability to operate in a fastpaced operational environment

Aviation, emergency management, or operations experience

FAA Part 139 familiarity

ACE certification

Experience in an airport operations center or dispatch environment

Regular outdoor exposure to weather conditions
