Job Duties and Preferred Qualifications:

The Department of Emergency Medical Services invites you to apply as our next Public Safety Clinical Coordinator. The Public Safety Clinical Coordinator will be pivotal in developing and overseeing mental health and well-being resources and services for the EMS workforce. This role involves research, assessment, coordination of case management, and implementation of various mental health, wellness, and resiliency programs. Additionally, this position ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, and City policy concerning occupational safety and health practices. The Public Safety Clinical Coordinator will also serve as the departmental liaison to the office of Occupational Safety and Health Services (OSHS) on matters related to employee mental health surveillance, monitoring, and mitigating threats to responder mental health.

This position is associated with similar positions such as Public Safety Behavioral Health Coordinator, First Responder Mental Health Program Manager, Clinical Wellness Coordinator – EMS, Behavioral Health & Resiliency Coordinator – Public Safety, and EMS Psychological Wellness Program Manager.

The Public Safety Clinical Coordinator will:

Assist in the admission process for each of our members, interviewing, assessing, and creating Individualized Service Plans for each member that seeks services.
Ensure all treatment related documentation is completed and documented appropriately with strict adherence to confidentiality and privacy laws.
Complete initial and recurring comprehensive needs assessment for referred individuals.
Utilize a trauma-informed approach to conduct individual or group evaluations/assessments and recommend appropriate resources and services to improve psychosocial functioning.
Adhere to Virginia state laws and City of Virginia Beach policies and procedures.
Conduct training to educate supervisors and senior leadership to identify when to provide appropriate intervention, resources, and proactive support to active and retired members as well as families.
Collaborate with senior leaders and department supervisors developing and implementing employee wellness policies and programs.
Implement and support mental health education and awareness initiatives to improve the overall health and quality of life for members
Serve as the department's Peer Support Team Co-Coordinator.
Culturally responsible for the needs of Public Safety/EMS.

To provide exceptional service to our personnel, the selected candidate must possess one of the following: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Professional Counselor (CPC).

Master's degree in clinical field such as counseling, social work, or psychology
Experience designing, implementing, coordinating, and/or evaluating employee wellness, resiliency, mental health education programs, and/or mental health initiatives, specifically designed for public safety professional/first responder or military populations.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field (such as psychology, behavioral or mental health, special education, social work) and five (5) years utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse OR any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid DMV driver’s license. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Professional Counselor (CPC); or licensed eligible currently under supervision. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
