Senior Interior Designer – Residential and Commercial
The Dragas Companies, a leader in Hampton Roads real estate development for over 58 years, is seeking a Senior Interior Designer with a minimum of seven years of residential and commercial design experience to provide comprehensive interior design services for the planning, design, renovation, and construction of residential, hospitality, office, and other commercial development projects.
Position Description
The Interior Designer is responsible for developing thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling interior design solutions that support the company’s residential and commercial new development and renovation projects. This position will collaborate closely with senior staff, architects, construction personnel, project managers, vendors, and consultants to carry design concepts through documentation, presentation, finish selection, and implementation.
The ideal candidate has strong residential and commercial design experience, excellent technical skills, a collaborative interpersonal style, and refined presentation abilities. This individual must be adept at preparing and reviewing construction drawings, presentation materials, finish selections, and complete public-facing design packages.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop interior design concepts, finish selections, construction drawings, presentation materials, and design packages for new residential single- and multi-family buildings, model homes, residential and commercial renovations, and new commercial projects including hospitality, retail, office, and institutional.
- Use AutoCAD, Photoshop, and related design tools to revise floor plans, prepare lighting and furniture plans, modify renderings, and support rezoning, marketing, and project presentation materials.
- Research, select, source, and coordinate interior and exterior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, fabrics, artwork, accessories, building materials, installation methods, pricing, samples, and availability.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, project managers, construction personnel, vendors, manufacturers’ representatives, suppliers, municipalities, and clients throughout the design and construction process.
- Review, modify, organize, and manage consultant drawings, CAD files, project records, sample libraries, product documentation, and municipal submittals.
- Design and oversee model home and commercial facility interior installations, including final furniture, accessories, artwork, and window treatments.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, project coordination meetings, vendor meetings, field visits, and provide general project design support.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation from $90,000 to $130,000 including bonuses, depending on experience and qualifications.

Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, or equivalent degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field required.
- Minimum of 7 years of interior design experience supporting residential, commercial, new development, renovation, model home, hospitality, office, retail, or related projects within an architectural firm.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and design documentation required, including the ability to revise floor plans, prepare lighting and furniture plans, and support construction, presentation, and project materials.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, preferred; experience with design-related AI platforms, visualization tools, or related technology a plus.
- Strong understanding of residential and commercial design principles, space planning, finish coordination, construction detailing, material applications, furnishings, fixtures, lighting, artwork, accessories, and installation methods.
- Ability to develop, organize, interpret, and review interior design concepts, finish selections, construction drawings, consultant drawings, specifications, product documentation, municipal submittals, and complete design packages.
- Strong research, sourcing, pricing, sample management, and vendor coordination skills related to finishes, fixtures, furnishings, fabrics, building materials, product availability, and project implementation.
- Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills with a professional, polished, collaborative, and client-focused presentation style suitable for client meetings, design reviews, vendor meetings, coordination meetings, and public-facing design discussions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, selections, design details, records, and project documentation simultaneously while exercising sound judgment, discretion, accountability, and employment stability.
- Certification through the National Council for Interior Design Qualification or American Society of Interior Designers affiliation, membership, or professional involvement preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while preparing drawings, presentation materials, documentation, and project communications.
- Must be able to attend meetings and move safely through showrooms, selection centers, model homes, commercial properties, offices, hospitality or retail spaces, and active residential or commercial construction and renovation sites, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs as needed.
- Must be able to lift, carry, arrange, and transport samples, presentation boards, furnishings, accessories, artwork, finish materials, and related design materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to see color, finishes, patterns, scale, materials, drawings, renderings, and design details, and to hear within normal range for meetings, field visits, vendor coordination, and project communications.
