This is an excellent opportunity for Medical Assistants who have completed a formal Medical Assistant education program, possess recent hands-on clinical experience working with pediatric & geriatric patients, and are interested in supporting military healthcare operations in a structured, team-oriented environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be considered.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program that:
- Included in-person classroom instruction
- Included an in-person clinical externship
- Was a minimum of six (6) months in duration
- Is accredited, approved, or accepted by the Military Treatment Facility
Important: Candidates who obtained a Medical Assistant certification (NHA, NCMA, CCMA, etc.) without completing a formal Medical Assistant education program are not eligible for this position.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on Medical Assistant experience within the past three (3) years
- Experience must have been obtained after graduation from a qualifying Medical Assistant program
- Experience must include direct patient care in a clinical setting
- Experience working with both pediatric and geriatric patients is required
Please Note: Medical Assistant experience obtained before completing a formal Medical Assistant program does not count toward the required one-year experience requirement.
Certification Requirements
- Current hands-on Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through:
- American Heart Association (AHA), or
- American Red Cross
- Ability to provide BLS certification number and expiration date
Citizenship & Security Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required government credentials and security clearances
- Must successfully pass all background screening requirements
Immunization Requirements
Selected candidates must provide documentation of required immunizations and/or immunity, including:
- Hepatitis B vaccine series and/or positive titer
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination and/or positive titer
- Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccination and/or positive titer
- Tdap within the last 10 years
- Current Tuberculosis screening (PPD or Quantiferon Gold)
- Current seasonal Influenza vaccination (if applicable)
Candidates should have access to their immunization records or be willing to obtain any missing documentation prior to credentialing.
Additional Requirements
- Two (2) professional letters of recommendation dated within the last two years:
- One from a current or former supervisor
- One from a peer or professional colleague
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and perform clinical duties for extended periods
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Medical Assistants support providers and patients in a fast-paced outpatient healthcare environment. Duties include:
- Prepare patients and examination rooms for appointments
- Obtain and document vital signs and patient histories
- Support patient care across the lifespan, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
- Review provider schedules and prepare patient charts
- Maintain accurate documentation within MHS GENESIS and other EHR systems
- Administer clinic-approved screenings and questionnaires
- Assist with population health initiatives and preventive care measures
- Coordinate patient communications and appointment scheduling
- Participate in daily team huddles and interdisciplinary care planning
- Maintain compliance with all military, federal, and clinical policies
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff as assigned
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives
Base Closure & Down Day Information
Military facilities may periodically close for training events, federal holidays, or operational requirements.
Employees are compensated only for hours worked. During scheduled facility closures, employees may elect to use available leave or take Leave Without Pay (LWOP) without penalty.
