Pay: $17.00 per hour
Shift / Schedule: Guaranteed 40 hours per week; 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week; shifts available
based on operational need: 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM, and 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Do you enjoy working in a field environment where safety, awareness, and public service are priorities? PEMCCO is seeking a Traffic Control Officer to support transportation operations at a major bridge-tunnel facility.
In this role, you will help maintain safe traffic flow, perform vehicle screening activities, patrol transportation corridors, assist motorists, and support emergency response efforts. This position is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in traffic management, public safety, security operations, transportation services, roadside assistance, or related field operations.
A CDL is highly desirable but not required.

Job Overview
The Traffic Control Officer plays an important role in supporting tunnel operations and protecting the traveling public. This position requires a dependable individual who can remain alert, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively to changing roadway conditions.
The successful candidate will assist with traffic control activities, vehicle inspections, tunnel and roadway patrols, facility monitoring, and incident response operations. Duties may be performed independently and often occur outdoors in active transportation environments.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct inspections of vehicles entering the facility for height restrictions, hazardous materials, and other safety concerns
- Direct and manage traffic movement within and around the bridge-tunnel complex
- Patrol tunnels, roadways, and assigned operational areas to identify hazards or unusual conditions
- Provide assistance to disabled or stranded motorists
- Support law enforcement, fire personnel, and emergency responders during incidents and special events
- Operate company vehicles and assigned equipment safely and effectively
- Monitor conditions that could impact public safety or traffic operations and report findings as necessary
- Participate in DOT, CPR, and other required training programs
- Maintain a professional presence while interacting with the public and responding to operational situations
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Ability to work outside during all weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safe work practices
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
- Willingness to complete employer-provided training and certifications
Preferred Experience
- Experience in public safety, transportation operations, security, or traffic management
- Background in vehicle inspections, patrol operations, traffic control, or emergency response
- Prior outdoor or field-service work experience
- CDL strongly preferred but not required
- Comfort working in physically active roles that require walking, standing, driving, lifting,
and responding to live roadway conditions
