About the Firm
Corcoran Smith Law Corp. is a California boutique litigation firm focused on inheritance disputes, beneficiary rights, and trust litigation, with a broader civil litigation practice that includes business disputes, wrongful death, and other complex civil matters statewide.
Founded by a business executive with deep experience operating a $100M+ global company, the firm is built for disciplined execution, direct client communication, and technology-driven workflow that eliminates administrative overhead.
We use an Initial Case Assessment (ICA) model: clients receive a comprehensive written analysis before committing to litigation, so every engagement moves forward with purpose.
Your Role
Handle contested civil litigation matters, with a focus on (or willingness to develop expertise in) trust contests, will challenges, trustee removal and surcharge actions, breach of fiduciary duty, elder abuse and financial elder abuse claims, wrongful death claims, business disputes, and complex estate administration disputes.
Conduct Initial Case Assessments: analyze facts, identify legal theories and exposure, evaluate strategy, and prepare actionable written memos that guide client decision-making.
Draft and respond to pleadings, demurrers, motions, discovery, points and authorities, and declarations.
Represent clients at hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitration, and trial. First-chair or second-chair trial experience strongly valued.
Advise clients on litigation strategy, risk, settlement posture, and case economics.
Contribute across the firm's broader civil docket as caseload and interest allow.
Requirements
Active member of the California State Bar in good standing.
3 to 7+ years of litigation experience. 5+ years preferred. We welcome:
- Trust and estate litigators with probate court experience, OR
- Civil, commercial, business, wrongful death, or general litigation attorneys with strong trial and motion practice experience who want to expand into trust/estate work.
Real trial and courtroom experience, including depositions, hearings, motions, mediations, arbitration, and/or trials.
Working knowledge of California civil procedure. Familiarity with the California Probate Code is a plus but not required; we will train the right candidate.
Strong legal writing. If your briefs need heavy editing, this is not the right fit.
Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable managing your own caseload, hitting annual billable-hour and/or revenue targets, and taking ownership of outcomes in a remote environment.
Treats clients with directness, empathy, and professionalism.
