Senior CNC Lathe Machinist — 2nd Shift

Continental Controls Corporation
Location: San Diego, California (Miramar area)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Pay: $30–$40 per hour, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time

Position Overview

Continental Controls Corporation is seeking an experienced Senior CNC Lathe Machinist for our second shift. This position is intended for a skilled machinist who can independently set up, operate, inspect, and troubleshoot CNC turning work.

CNC programming experience is not required. Programs will be provided. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes, including live-tooling and multi-axis turning equipment.

This is a hands-on production position requiring strong knowledge of machining practices, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, cutting tools, workholding, and precision inspection.

Work Schedule

Second shift: 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday
Overtime is regularly available and encouraged
Some weekend overtime may be available depending on workload

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC lathes equipped with Fanuc controls
Set up and operate live-tooling and multi-axis turning centers
Load and run existing CNC programs
Install and touch off cutting tools
Set work offsets, tool offsets, and wear compensation
Select appropriate inserts, toolholders, boring bars, drills, and other tooling
Install and adjust chuck jaws, collets, fixtures, and other workholding
Produce parts from engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work instructions
Interpret blueprints, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements
Inspect first-piece and in-process parts
Measure features using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, depth micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and other precision inspection equipment
Make tool and wear-offset adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy
Monitor tool condition, surface finish, chip control, and machine performance
Identify and correct setup, tooling, workholding, and machining problems
Maintain accurate production and inspection records
Perform routine machine cleaning and preventive maintenance
Follow all shop safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements
Assist and provide guidance to less-experienced machinists when needed

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years of CNC lathe machining experience
Strong experience setting up and operating CNC turning centers
Experience with Fanuc CNC controls
Experience with live-tooling lathes
Ability to independently complete machine setups
Strong blueprint-reading skills
Working knowledge of GD&T
Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, depth gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measuring tools
Ability to hold close dimensional and geometric tolerances
Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, speeds, feeds, workholding, and tool-life management
Ability to diagnose and correct common machining and setup problems
Ability to work with limited supervision
Dependable attendance and willingness to work second shift
Willingness to work overtime as production needs require

Preferred Experience

Experience with Y-axis and sub-spindle CNC lathes
Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and other engineered materials
Experience with close-tolerance production components
Experience performing first-piece and in-process inspections
Familiarity with ISO 9001 or similar quality systems

Programming Experience

CNC programming experience is not required for this position. Candidates must be able to load and run provided programs, understand the machining process, set tools and offsets, and make appropriate wear adjustments. The ability to read or understand basic G-code is mandatory.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and work at CNC equipment for most of the shift
Ability to lift and move materials, tooling, and fixtures weighing up to [50] pounds
Ability to safely use lifting equipment for heavier components
Ability to perform repetitive inspection, setup, and machine-loading tasks
