About Nathan Doan Comedy
Nathan Doan Comedy is a large YouTube comedy channel producing scripted, character-driven comedy content for millions of viewers.
We're looking for a Part-Time Video Editor to join our post-production team and help turn raw footage into polished, entertaining YouTube videos.
This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about editing, already has a solid foundation in post-production, and wants hands-on experience working on professional YouTube content.
The Position
Our current main editor is reducing his schedule, and we're looking for an editor who can step into his existing workflow and eventually handle the work independently.
During your initial training period, you will work directly alongside our current editor, learning our editing process, expectations, file organization, channel style, and workflow.
Once you're fully trained and demonstrate that you can consistently meet our quality standards, you will transition to working independently on your scheduled weeks.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be involved in the full editing process, including:
- Reviewing and organizing raw footage
- Making selects and identifying the strongest takes
- Building assemblies
- Editing scenes and full videos
- Creating strong pacing and comedic timing
- Shaping performances through editing
- Sound design and sound effects
- Music placement
- Audio cleanup
- Basic color correction and grading
- Creating and styling subtitles/captions
- Polishing videos for final delivery
- Making revisions based on feedback
- Maintaining consistency with the channel's existing editing style
- Organizing project files and media
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys editing and wants to continue developing their skills.
You should have a good foundation in:
- Video editing
- Pacing
- Storytelling
- Comedic timing
- Dialogue editing
- Sound design
- Basic color correction
- Subtitles/captions
- Media and project organization
You don't need to be an expert in every area. We're willing to train the right person on our specific workflow and style.
Editing Instinct Matters
Technical knowledge is important, but we're especially interested in someone who understands why an edit works.
You should be able to recognize when:
- A scene is moving too slowly
- A reaction should be held longer
- A joke needs more or less setup
- A cut would improve the pacing
- A sound effect would make a moment funnier
- A performance can be improved through editing
Because we're making comedy, timing and storytelling are extremely important.
Training & Independence
You will initially work alongside our current editor during your training period.
You'll learn:
- Our editing workflow
- File organization
- Channel editing style
- Pacing and comedic conventions
- Sound-design approach
- Caption/subtitle style
- Color workflow
- Revision process
- Final delivery standards
Once you're comfortable with the workflow and demonstrate that you can independently produce edits to our standards, you'll take over your assigned work independently.
We're looking for someone who can eventually be trusted to take a project from raw footage to finished video without constant supervision.
Ideal Candidate
This position would be especially well suited for someone who:
- Is currently studying film, media production, editing, or a related field
- Is in their second year of college or beyond
- Has already decided they want to pursue film/video professionally
- Has a genuine passion for editing
- Enjoys working in an editing timeline
- Wants real-world experience beyond classroom projects
- Is comfortable receiving feedback
- Learns quickly
- Is organized and detail-oriented
- Can work independently once trained
- Is interested in YouTube and digital media
Being a film student is not required.
We care much more about your editing ability, work ethic, and passion for the craft than your specific degree.
Software
Adobe Premiere Pro experience is required
Experience with:
- Adobe After Effects
- Adobe Audition
- DaVinci Resolve
- Photoshop
is a plus.
Experience
Professional editing experience is not required.
We're open to:
- Film students
- Media production students
- Recent graduates
- Freelance editors
- Editors with YouTube experience
- People with strong school or personal projects
Your portfolio matters more than your resume.
School projects, short films, YouTube videos, personal projects, and other edited content are all welcome.
Schedule
This is a unique every-other-week position.
You will work approximately 40 hours during your scheduled week, followed by one week off, and then return for another full-time week.
The exact schedule will be established with the production team.
Because the position is intended to fill an existing editor's alternating schedule, consistent availability during your assigned weeks is essential.
Compensation & Growth
Starting pay: $20/hour.
During your training period, you'll work alongside our current editor and learn our workflow.
After you are fully trained, your editing skills and ability to independently handle the work will be evaluated.
Based on demonstrated skill, quality, speed, reliability, and ability to work independently, there is potential to increase your pay to up to $26/hour.
This is not an automatic raise based solely on time in the position. The increase will be based on your demonstrated ability to independently perform the role at the expected level.
Position Duration
This position is currently planned as a temporary position through February 2027.
However, there is potential for the position to become permanent depending on the company's production and staffing needs.
A permanent position is not guaranteed, but strong performance may create an opportunity to continue working with the team beyond the initial term.
