How you'll make an impact in this role:
Execute Outgoing Specialty Referral Pathways: Process and coordinate outgoing specialty referral orders originating from primary care clinics, ensuring seamless patient transitions to external specialists.
Direct Insurance Authorization & Coverage Verification: Audit referral requirements across various payor guidelines to determine authorization necessity; secure timely pre-certifications and prior authorizations to clear financial hurdles prior to care.
Manage Specialized Diagnostic Clearances: Coordinate diagnostic imaging and cardiology orders routed to hospital departments (such as Providence Radiology & Cardiology), securing all required pre-authorizations and medical necessity approvals.
Lead High-Touch Patient Referral Communications: Contact patients directly to deliver status updates on outgoing referrals, explain authorization outcomes, and provide clear next steps for their specialty or diagnostic appointments.
Maintain EHR Referral & Data Integrity: Index, log, and track referral progress, authorization numbers, and coverage documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with zero margin for error.
Collaborate Across Care Teams: Partner closely with primary care providers, clinical care coordinators, and hospital scheduling departments to resolve referral delays and prevent care interruptions.
What minimum qualifications you'll need:
Education:

High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

What additional requirements you'll need:
Command of Medical Terminology: Solid working knowledge of medical and clinical terminology to accurately interpret provider orders, specialty referrals, and diagnostic coding.
Prior Authorization & Referral Expertise: Direct experience auditing insurance plans, navigating payor portals, securing prior authorizations, and processing specialty referrals.
EHR & Technical Competency: Functional experience navigating Electronic Health Record (EHR) databases and referral tracking systems.
Precision & Detail Orientation: Meticulous tracking skills to manage high-volume referral pipelines while ensuring strict adherence to payor submission deadlines.

Customer Service Savvy: Strong customer service background with exceptional verbal communication skills to interact compassionately with patients and professionally with payor networks.
