Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Medical Collections Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. Must understand what comes with working for a start up company. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the collection of outstanding medical accounts, ensuring timely payments while maintaining positive patient relationships. Your expertise in medical billing, coding, and insurance processes will drive revenue cycle efficiency and improve overall financial performance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced healthcare environment where your skills directly impact patient care and organizational success.

This position is only open to TEXAS AND LOUISIANA

Key Responsibilities

Work A/R aging (30/60/90+), prioritize high-dollar and timely-filing risk claims.
Must be able to communicate with patients when they have questions.
Follow up with payers by phone/portals; document actions and next steps
Resolve denials: corrections, reconsiderations, appeals, and rebilling
Investigate underpayments and request corrections/reprocessing
Post payer updates/status notes and maintain clean claim documentation
Identify trends (payer issues, denial reasons) and escalate recurring problems
Coordinate with charge entry/coding as needed to fix claim errors
Meet daily productivity and resolution targets. Must be able to work < 65 plus account a day.

Requirements

2+ years medical billing A/R follow-up experience (behavioral health a plus)
Strong knowledge of EOBs/ERAs, denials, appeals, and payer portals
Comfortable on payer calls and persistent with follow-up
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
Experience with practice management/EHR systems (AdvancedMD and Epic preferred)

Eligibility/benefits verification knowledge
Familiarity with timely filing rules and appeal levels by payer

Performance Expectations (examples)

Consistent daily A/R touch rate and documented follow-up (65 per day)
Reduction of 60/90+ aging over time
Clean notes, clear ownership, and strong closure rate
