Primary Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of Communications, work with District administrators and staff as the lead writer in producing a variety of publications that illustrate the Waco ISD mission and vision to external and internal audiences.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related fields
Valid Texas Driver's License and proof of liability insurance
Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Experience with proofreading, editing and basic interviewing skills
Proficiency in AP style writing and editing
Professional experience with creating content for various social media platforms and social media platform management
Functional knowledge of DSLR photography and basic photo editing
Knowledge and experience with content management systems, HTML, CSS and other web content or web design areas
Ability to analyze and solve problems in alignment with department and district goals
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, often changing assignments on short notice with minimal direction
Ability to communicate effectively utilizing a variety of methods with a diverse audience
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain a positive and proactive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
Experience:
2 years of professional experience (internship experience is highly valued)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Draft, edit, and proofread high-quality content for print and online use.

Collaborate with the team to brainstorm and execute campaigns that highlight student success, staff achievement, and community engagement.

Be part of the team that creates and schedules engaging content for district social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X) that reflects our Waco ISD spirit.

Maintain and update district webpages, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and engaging.

Serve as a district photographer, capturing high-quality images of students, staff, and events for use in marketing and news.

Assist with the coordination of media inquiries, help draft media advisories, and provide on-site support for news outlets during district events and press conferences.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Computers and related computer equipment. Camera for photography and video recording equipment. Utilize local interfaces to remote servers and related software, copy machine, fax, calculator, and other related business equipment.

Maintain emotional control under stress. People intensive. Administrative office environment. Frequent interruptions, hectic pace, quick deadlines. Walking, standing, and bending; occasional moderately heavy lifting and carrying; occasional stooping and kneeling; considerable reading and writing; operation of motor vehicle, occasional in-district travel. Work hours outside of regular work hours at least once per week.
