Full Job Description

The Medical Director is responsible for general oversight of all medical and clinical services provided to consumers. The person in this position participates as a member of the Leadership Team, the primary decision-making body of the company. The Medical Director provides psychiatric assessments and pharmacotherapy to service recipients and ensures each consumer is receiving appropriate services for which s/he meets medical necessity criteria. They must work closely with consumer’s physicians, other clinical staff, and community agencies. Individuals in this position are expected to be on-call 24 hours a day and provide guidance in crisis situations. The Medical Director must be a board-certified psychiatrist in the state of North Carolina. Additionally, s/he must be enrolled and in good standing with North Carolina Medicaid.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Provides overall supervision of medical/clinical aspects of services delivered within the agency.

Together with the Quality Management/Training Director, identifies and oversees the development and implementation of evidence based treatment protocols employed within the agency.

Reviews quality management initiatives which are developed by the Quality Management/Training Director and instituted within the organization.

Participates in Leadership and Quality Assurance meetings to ensure quality service provision and provide ongoing clinical guidance.

Staff Supervision, and Support:

Provides direct supervision of medical staff employed within the agency.

Is available after hours to provide guidance and/or assist with hospitalization in the event of a psychiatric crisis.

Assessment and Treatment:

Conducts psychiatric evaluations, makes or confirms diagnosis and prescribes appropriate therapies.

Reviews medical necessity criteria to ensure evidence based practice treatment modalities are being provided based on diagnosis of individuals receiving services. Signs orders for services.

Ensures coordination with primary care physicians and other medical healthcare providers to assure continuity of care.

Consults with primary healthcare providers as needed regarding consumers psychiatric care and any potential physical health implications.

Directly supervises complex cases.

Documentation:

Completes necessary forms for assessments and service notes.

Documents services in accordance with service record requirements and Medicaid guidelines.

Ensures that data is entered into the information management system and is accurate, complete, and entered in a timely manner.

Ensures that correct billing codes are documented and submits accurate billing information in a timely manner.

Completes necessary paperwork to obtain and maintain individual provider numbers from Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party payers.

Reviews billing of psychiatric services provided in the information management system, ensures that all services are accounted for and billed properly.

Personal Growth and Development:

Attends training to maintain clinical skills and licensure.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $150.00 - $185.00 per hour

Expected hours: 4 – 8 per week
