Job Title: Director of Wellness
Reports To: General Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Director of Wellness is a senior-level strategic, hospitality-driven leader responsible for the vision, financial performance, marketing alignment, and operational execution of all Body + Mind operations at Shepherd’s Run.
This role has full accountability for departmental performance, including revenue generation, pool operations, subcontractor management, cost controls, staffing, strategy, and guest experience/member development. The Director operates the Body + Mind (B+M) facility as a business within a business, developing systems, leading teams, and driving sustainable growth, efficiency, and profitability in alignment with Shepherd’s Run’s brand identity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Body + Mind Management
- Establish and lead the overall vision, strategy and direction for the B+M operation
- Provide visible, hands-on leadership while maintaining strategic oversight
- Ensure all operations align with Shepherd’s Run standards and brand identity
- Recruit, train and manage B+M employees and Independent Class Instructors + Treatment Providers
- Develop B+M class schedules, treatment offerings, menus and special events that differentiate and enhance guest experience
- Collaborate with other departments to create brand-aligned offerings that optimize revenue and expense management
Body + Mind Operations
- Oversee and coordinate all B+M operations including independent contractors, class planning, inventory management, cost controls, record keeping and staffing
- Drive retail sales through strategic product curation, merchandising, and team training, ensuring alignment with treatments and guest experience to maximize revenue per guest.
- Manage monthly memberships
- Maintains spa treatment, class and wellness space reservations systems
- Manage the scheduling of all independent contractors
- Maintains insurance, licenses and proper training documentation files for all independent contractors
- Inspects the wellness areas, and grounds for cleanliness, safety and appearance.
- Actively participates in keeping B+M clean and tidy, and turns over locker room, spa lounge + living room spaces throughout the day
- Maintain inventory levels of all retail and operating supplies and perform monthly inventory
- Greet and welcome guests, answer inquiries pertaining to wellness policies and services, and resolve guest complaints.
- Ensures that the Host Team is properly trained and informed of B+M products and offerings to promote cross sales to winery guests
- Develop and manage a diverse class + treatment portfolio aligned with brand positioning that utilizes the strengths of the active Independent Contractors and aligns with the needs of the Wellness Members + Community
Facility Management
- Oversee pool operations, including program scheduling, daily cleaning protocols, pool system performance, and water quality management.
- Implement preventative maintenance programs that protects the physical asset of the wellness area and public spaces
- Schedule, organize and document fitness equipment maintenance
Body + Mind Events & Programming
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of all B+M events and programming
- Develop a consistent event cadence, including weekly, monthly, and seasonal programming designed to drive engagement, utilization, and revenue.
- Develop event concepts that drive revenue, elevate guest experience, and align with brand identity
- Coordinate cross-departmentally to ensure seamless execution
- Manage event strategy including scheduling, staffing, pricing, and logistics
- Ensure events are properly marketed and aligned with the department marketing calendar
- Evaluate event performance and adjust programming to improve results
Financial Performance & Cost Management
- Own departmental financial performance, including revenue, labor, and cost of goods (COGS)
- Develop and manage budgets aligned with profitability and growth objectives
- Implement systems for inventory control, forecasting, and disciplined purchasing
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust operations to improve financial results
Revenue Growth & Programming
- Develop and execute revenue-generating initiatives including:
- Wellness retreats
- Specials to drive sales volume in need periods
- Develop sales and marketing tactics to reach new customer bases
- Manage, grow, and obtain new monthly members, local and destination guests
- Collaborate with Events, Wine Bar and Hospitality teams to enhance offerings
- Collaborate with Culinary to introduce spa-aligned food and beverage offerings, including light fare, snack bar, or wellness menu options that enhance guest experience and increase spend.
- Identify opportunities to increase guest spend and overall revenue
Marketing, Brand Presence & Promotion
- Oversee marketing and promotional strategy for B+M offerings in alignment with overall property goals
- Ensure all offerings, experiences and events are consistently marketed and visible to guests
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to promote wine experiences, events and retail offerings
- Develop and implement repeatable marketing systems, including standardized templates, reusable marketing frameworks and the strategic use of AI tools to improve efficiency and consistency
- Ensure consistent visibility of Body + Mind offerings through dynamic in-property and digital communication, including a live board or centralized display of current events, programming, specials, and wellness updates.
- Establish and maintain a proactive marketing calendar
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline marketing processes
- Utilize appropriate marketing channels including social media, email campaigns, newsletters, cross-promotion marketing, partnerships, and others as necessary to engage and retain customers
Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, schedule and manage Body + Mind staff
- Align staffing levels with business demand and labor targets
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture aligned with company values
- Train team members on the property management system, point of sale system, reservation system, and guest communication system.
Operational Systems & Execution
- Develop, document and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows
- Ensure consistency in service, presentation, and guest experience
- Maintain organized, efficient and compliant operations across all B+M functions
Qualifications
General Requirements
- Prior leadership experience in a spa/wellness facility, hospitality, or a related operational field
- Strong financial acumen and operational management skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive performance
- Experience in developing guest experiences and revenue programs preferred

Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 25–50lbs as required
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, bend, and perform repetitive motions during a shift.
- Adequate vision and hearing to perform job duties safely and effectively.
