Full Job Description

About the Role

We are searching for an enterprising Workforce Development Manager to build out our Workforce Development Program and provide individualized service to our clients. You will serve as a vital link between our clients and the resources they need to improve their job readiness, connect to job training and certification opportunities, and identify and secure gainful employment. The successful candidate should be knowledgeable about adult-centered teaching practices.

Your primary responsibility will be working with clients to facilitate job readiness (including resume writing and interview skills consultations) and guiding clients through the process of identifying and securing employment. You will also research and identify job training and certification programs; network with area employers to facilitate job placement and produce two small (8-12 exhibitors) annual Career Fairs; and lead workshops to enhance workplace skills and prepare clients for their job search.

This is a hybrid position and expected to be in the office 1-2 days a week.

About My Sister’s Place

My Sister's Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence. As DC's oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the district's response to this pressing public health issue since 1979. MSP is unique in offering a continuum of care from emergency shelter through transitional-to-permanent housing. Our experienced team of case managers and residential counselors provide clinical counseling, case management, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive. MSP also provides training, case consultation, and advocacy to engage communities to prevent violence and abuse.

What You’ll Be Doing

Client Assessment and Guidance
Work with Program Advocates to identify client needs
Consult with clients to assess their job readiness; employment objectives and preferences, and any barriers to employment
Work collaboratively with clients to develop and implement a Workforce Development Service Plan
Identify and connect clients to relevant training and certification programs, if applicable
Assist clients in navigating their job search, including resume preparation, identifying and applying for open roles, and interview skills consultation
Resource Coordination
Research and compile information on relevant job training and certification programs in the DMV area
Assist clients in accessing these resources, monitor their progress, and provide assistance on an as-needed basis to facilitate program completion
Assist clients in accessing Fresh Start Funds, financial aid, or scholarships as required
Employer Engagement and Business Networking
Establish and nurture relationships with local businesses, HR departments, and industry associations
Collaborate with businesses to identify job opportunities and promote hiring initiatives for our clients, including two small, private Career Fairs annually
Facilitate job placements and internship opportunities for clients
Seek opportunities to network with organizations, agencies, and potential funders in the DMV to broaden our organization’s footprint and identify opportunities to partner and to expand and improve upon our existing programming
Skills Development Workshops:
Design and lead workshops on essential job readiness and workplace skills, such as communication, presentation, problem-solving, time management, and utilizing technology
Provide coaching and support to clients in areas such as resume writing, interview preparation, and professional communication
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential detailed records of client interactions, resource referrals, and job placements
Compile data on program outcomes and success stories
Prepare regular reports for management and funders
Continuous Learning:
Stay up to date with industry trends, workforce development best practices, and educational resources in the DMV area

Qualifications

At least 3-5 years in workforce development, career counseling, recruiting or related roles
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Counseling, Business Administration)
Strong knowledge of DMV job training, education, and certification programs
Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Entrepreneurial mindset; strategic thinker who regularly seeks opportunities to grow and improve upon existing programming
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients and employers
Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping individuals achieve their career goals

Background Check & Drug Testing Requirements
Employment at My Sister’s Place is contingent upon the successful completion of background checks, including FBI and MPD background checks, TB testing, and a drug test. Additionally, due to grant requirements, employees must maintain updated background checks and screenings as required for their position throughout their employment.
