Toolroom CNC Machinist (2nd Shift)

JOB SCOPE (DESCRIPTION)

Set up, program and run details to specifications as part of a quality-machining group assuring that products meet customer requirements. Programing and operating one CNC lathe or mill.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES PERCENTAGE OF ENERGY

Programmer Gibbs Cam Software 20%

Machine Set Up/Machine operator 80%

DETAILED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Programmer- 20%

Perform programming setups for new and existing jobs using Gibbs Cam software.
Interpret CAD drawings and read data that needs to be pulled for programming.
Communicate with Design Engineers with any updates or changes that need to be made with CAD drawings.
Communicate with Toolmakers with any changes that may need to be updated or changed.
Update database for repeat job setups.
Modify programs in response to problems/changes.

Machine Set Up – 10%

Set all tooling that needs to be ran in CNC Mill or CNC Lathe. Focusing on one type of machine.
Ensure parts meet extremely close tolerance dimensions, alignments, and specifications.
Analyze blueprints and engineering drawing for determining part dimensions and cut configurations.
Understand written instructions and be willing and able to communicate instructions to others.

Machine Operator - 70%

Observe machining of first parts to verify programming accuracy.
Utilize micrometers, calipers, gauges, comparators and inspect work against prints or models.
Continuously looking for innovative ways to improve processes, reduce waste, increase throughput, and improve run time.
Diagnose and correct any equipment or tooling issues.
Efficiently operate one CNC lathe or CNC mill.

Other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as requested by direct supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:

Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Experience: 5 years in a toolroom environment. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience setting up and operating. Programming and machining.
Hard cutting/hard turning experience is a plus.
Plex experience is a plus.
Preferred Training/Skills: Previous experience running a CNC mill/CNC lathe.
Previous experience programming with Gibbs cam software.
Interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication abilities, heightened attention to detail and ability to follow-through.
Ability to read and interpret complete blueprints and other required documents.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires a moderate level of physical activity.
Standing, walking, moving, and bending for substantial periods of time.
Occasionally lifting and moving up to 40 lbs.
Must wear proper eye and ear protection in designated areas.
Must wear proper OSHA approved work boots or shoes.
