Senior Tax Accountant / Tax Manager

Bennett & Rhodes, Inc. is a well-established public accounting firm located in Pleasant Hill, California. We provide personalized tax, accounting, payroll, estate, and consulting services to individuals, families, trusts, and closely held businesses throughout California and beyond.

Unlike many larger CPA firms, we believe in developing long-term relationships—with both our clients and our employees. We offer a collaborative environment where you'll have the opportunity to work directly with partners, make meaningful contributions, and continue growing professionally.

This is a full-time, in-office position. We are seeking someone who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Tax Accountant, you'll work on a wide variety of accounting and tax engagements throughout the year.

Tax Services

Prepare and review Federal and California:
Individual (Form 1040)
Partnership (Form 1065)
S Corporation (Form 1120-S)
Corporate (Form 1120)
Fiduciary & Trust Returns (Form 1041)
Estate & Gift Tax Returns (Forms 706 & 709)

Accounting Services

Prepare financial statements
Perform general ledger accounting
Prepare adjusting journal entries
Review bookkeeping and QuickBooks files
Assist with payroll tax and sales tax reporting

Client Services

Tax planning
Tax research
IRS and State notice resolution
Work directly with business owners and high-net-worth individuals
Mentor junior staff members
Review work prepared by staff accountants
Build long-term client relationships

What We're Looking For

Required

Minimum 6 years of recent public accounting experience
Strong technical tax knowledge
Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns
Strong accounting background
Experience with QuickBooks
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management abilities
Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional client service

Preferred

Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA
Experience with ProSeries Professional Tax Software
Experience with tax planning
Experience supervising or mentoring staff

Compensation

Salary: $100,000 – $145,000

Compensation is based upon experience, technical expertise, certifications, and leadership ability.
