Full Job Description

Position Overview

The Commercial Loan Assistant provides essential support to the commercial lending team by coordinating loan processing, assisting with underwriting, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical ability, and the professionalism needed to support a high‑volume commercial loan portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Loan Processing & Closing

Coordinate the processing and closing of commercial loans with accuracy and thoroughness.
Complete all pre‑closing requirements and verify that documentation is complete, compliant, and properly organized.
Assist the Loan Officer during loan closings, including collecting borrower fees, preparing funding documentation (e.g., wiring instructions), and ensuring all closing steps are completed.
Submit documents for recording, including mortgages, assignments, modifications, and other required filings.
Copy and file original notes; send booking documentation to Loan Operations; assemble files with loan documents, financial information, and supporting materials for post‑closing review.

Underwriting Support

Assist Loan Officers with pre‑underwriting tasks, including gathering financial statements, tax returns, organizational documents, collateral information, and other required materials.
Prepare and organize underwriting packages for submission to the credit department.
Verify completeness and accuracy of borrower information prior to credit review.
Support the analysis of borrower financials by reviewing documentation for consistency, completeness, and compliance with bank standards.
Coordinate with the credit department to resolve questions, provide additional documentation, and ensure timely underwriting decisions.

Portfolio Management

Assist Loan Officers in managing their commercial loan portfolios, including monitoring:
Exceptions
Delinquencies, overdrafts, and past‑due items
Maturities
Required financial reporting
Miscellaneous filing needs
Collaborate with Loan Officers to develop action plans addressing portfolio issues.
Follow up on recorded mortgages, final title policies, and outstanding post‑closing items.
Process advance/draw requests as needed and verify compliance with loan terms.

Compliance & Procedures

Maintain current knowledge of banking laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Complete all responsibilities necessary to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance.
Adhere to bank policies, processes, and operational standards.

Communication & Customer Service

Maintain open, proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Provide professional, responsive service to:
Loan Officers
Credit Department
Loan Operations
Vendors (attorneys, title companies, insurance providers, county/state offices)
Borrowers

Required Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma required; additional education in business, finance, or related fields preferred.
1–3 years of banking or lending experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
Proficiency with Windows‑based computer systems and general office software.
Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and follow‑through.
Ability to interpret financial documents and support basic underwriting functions.

Background Requirement

Successful completion of a background check is required, including verification of employment history, education, and criminal record screening in accordance with bank policy and regulatory standards.

Salary starts at $20/hour
