The Building Commissioner serves as the chief zoning enforcement officer for the Town of Wareham. This critical leadership role oversees the issuance of permits, manages inspectional staff, and ensures all residential and commercial construction complies with applicable State laws, the Town Charter and Town Bylaws.
This is a full-time, Monday through Thursday position. The salary range, depending on experience, is $97,503.12 - $113,032.84 (probationary step through step 5 of a 9 step salary matrix with top step being $131,036.04), annually based upon forty (40) hours a week, fifty-two (52) weeks a year. There is also a very generous benefits package, including paid time off, professional development, health and dental insurance (paid at 68% and 75% of the premiums), a pension through Plymouth County Retirement Board once vested and other fantastic benefits. This is an overtime exempt, union position.
High School graduate or GED required supplemented by vocational training plus five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design, Bachelor’s degree in related field desirable, or any combination of education and experience.
Applicants must possess State Supervisory Construction License. They must possess or have the ability to obtain a certification as Building Inspector/Commissioner.They must have thorough knowledge of accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light ventilation and safe egress and be able to enforce and interpret regulations such as State Building Code, State Sanitary Code and Local Zoning By-Laws fairly, tactfully and impartially.Subject to CORI/SORI check, RMV check, pre-employment physical and drug test.
