SUMMARY: Directly responsible for the direct supervision of the Telecommunicators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
40% Handles routine and critical problems, has decision making responsibility in discipline, scheduling, grievance resolution and problem solving.
60% Performs a variety of administrative, technical, and supervisory duties. Supervises Telecommunicator. Assists in reviewing, evaluating, developing, and implementing programs. Assists in developing policies and procedures for various departmental operations. Performs duties related to dispatching and emergency information. Maintains dispatch work area and equipment in clean and working condition. Operates office and communication equipment as required. Assists in training new employees. Composes, types and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other materials. Serves as a member of various employee committees. Performs duties required for public relations of the department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Five years of related experience and/or training in emergency communications and supervision. Trumbull County 9-1-1 dispatcher training course or APCO 40-hour Telecommunicator Certification. CPR Certification. EMD Certification. Typing, computer operations, radio operations, knowledge of basic software packages.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to work with others towards general results. Must use sound judgment in accomplishing tasks. Some origination and planning of work needed. Tasks are varied and standard procedures often do not cover the situation. Supervision is available, if needed, but worker is expected to work out problems of difficulty without much direction.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a resident of Ohio with no record of criminal conviction. Must be physically capable of handling duties. Work schedule flexibility is essential. Must be available for shift work and overtime assignments.
