Job Overview
The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the housekeeping department to ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces consistently meet the hotel’s cleanliness, safety, and brand standards. This role manages housekeeping staff, coordinates daily operations, monitors inventory and expenses, and supports service delivery in collaboration with other departments to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
This position operates in a fast-paced hotel environment requiring active presence throughout the property, including guest floors, public spaces, and service areas. The role involves frequent interaction with housekeeping staff, front office, and maintenance teams to ensure timely room readiness and operational efficiency. A flexible schedule is required, including weekends and holidays as needed. Success in this role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and service in a dynamic hospitality environment.
Job Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily housekeeping operations, including room cleaning and public area maintenance.
- Ensure guest rooms are cleaned, inspected, and released in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with front desk and maintenance teams regarding room status and repairs.
- Ensure consistent application of brand standards across all housekeeping functions.
Team Leadership
- Supervise housekeeping supervisors, room attendants, and support staff.
- Recruit, train, and develop housekeeping team members.
- Prepare schedules and manage attendance and payroll tracking.
- Conduct performance reviews and address disciplinary actions as needed.
Quality Assurance
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the property.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Monitor and enforce housekeeping procedures and service standards.
- Identify and address areas for operational improvement.
Inventory & Budget Control
- Manage inventory of linens, uniforms, and cleaning supplies.
- Monitor departmental expenses and support cost control initiatives.
- Coordinate with purchasing to maintain proper stock levels.
- Minimize waste while ensuring operational readiness.
Guest Experience
- Respond to guest requests and resolve housekeeping-related concerns promptly.
- Ensure fulfillment of VIP amenities, special requests, and room preferences.
- Support a service-focused and guest-centric department culture.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance guest satisfaction.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Train staff in proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Maintain safe working conditions and enforce hotel safety policies.
- Promote consistent adherence to operational safety standards.
Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
Experience: 3–5+ years of housekeeping experience required, including supervisory or management experience in a hotel or resort environment.
Travel required: No travel required; position is fully property-based.
Physical requirements:
- Frequent walking and standing throughout hotel property.
- Occasional bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25–50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a physically active, fast-paced environment.
- Regular movement through guest rooms, hallways, and public areas.
