Afterschool Prevention Specialist: Alta Care Group is seeking a Part-Time Afterschool Prevention Specialist. This position will work approximately 16 -20 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the schools. The position is program funded and will follow the guidelines and timelines of the grant contract. The Prevention Specialist duties are to develop and implement prevention services in the community and school-based settings with school aged students. Assist identified schools and districts in the education, awareness, and advancement of prevention services as well as mental health issues among students. Provision of on-site prevention education services in school settings to assist school personnel in identifying and addressing prevention needs among students and the community in general as it relates to school aged children.
Specific Essential Functions of the Job
1. Development of Prevention Education and Awareness
- Establish, promote, and maintain relationships with local public, parochial, and charter school systems.
- Work with key school building administrators and personnel in promoting the value and effectiveness of prevention services.
- Monitor and provide assistance after program development and implementation to assure continuation and assist with modification as needed.
- Work with key community providers, boards and committees to help advocate, promote and effect change in the incidents of behavioral health problems as well as increase protective factors and decrease risk factors.
2. Implementation of Prevention Education and Screening
- Assist schools in the development of school-based prevention education and screening programs utilizing evidence-based education/awareness presentation formats, curriculum, programming and assessment tools. Develop an implementation designed and tailored to the individual school needs.
- Provide direct services to schools and community settings as it relates to prevention education and information dissemination via presentations, classroom-based curriculum interventions and/or attendance of public events.
- Lead or assist in the scoring of screening tool(s) or universal assessment utilized and engage in interpretation of results to assist in identifying students needing further assessment, follow-up as well as collection of information needed for reporting purposes.
- Lead or assist in conducting follow-up meetings and face-to-face interviews with students, as needed.
3. Linkage and Referral
- Assist in coordinating services, making appropriate referrals, and monitoring follow through with recommendations when students are identified with needs beyond prevention services.
4. Training and Development
- Participate in relevant training to acquire skills and competency in adolescent behavioral health issues along with alcohol, tobacco and other drug topics (ATOD). Acquire knowledge and demonstrate competency in screening and assessment tools recognized as evidence-based and effective by the professional community and determined to be appropriate by Alta.
- Participate in ongoing professional growth and development to stay abreast of the most current evidence-based issues related to the field of prevention, behavioral health and ATOD.
5. After School Programming (When Applicable)
- Assist with development and implementation of after-school services utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Provide direct services in after-school programing to identified schools or locations.
- Work with other community providers and school personnel in development, training, and implementation of after school programming.
6. Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain appropriate records to fulfill Alta, School, and/or other regulatory body requirements.
- Complete all required paperwork necessary for tracking and documenting all services provided.
7. Program Evaluation and Development
- Assist the Department and Clinical Directors in collecting and interpreting data necessary to appropriately evaluate the services provided.
8. Record Keeping
- Complete all required supervisory forms to validate student and/or staff training or work experience to State Professional Boards, as necessary.
9. Miscellaneous
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Director or Chief Executive Officer.
10. Verification
- Submits accurate accounting of daily activities so to meet established timelines as required by policy and procedure.
11. Support to the Agency
- If appointed, serve on the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, or other task forces or Committees, as necessary.
- Attend supervision, team, departmental, or Alta staff meetings.

- Possesses a valid Driver’s License.
- Current auto liability insurance to the limits required by the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles.

5. Absence of past criminal activity, which would bring into question professional and personal integrity as it applies to the position responsibilities.
6. Ability to pass drug screening testing if required.
7. Flexibility in adjusting work schedule, days and hours as necessary, to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
8. Ability to use a computer and efficiently learn necessary software programs.
Compensation: $20.00/hour
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Be willing to obtain a registered applicant certification within 90 days and be working toward the Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist assistant certification.
- Must be able to pass BCI/FBI background check and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Previous experience with Prevention, Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug services and/or Peer Recovery Support services.
