Duties
- Assist with food production and meal preparation to support the culinary team in delivering delicious, nutritious meals.
- Follow established recipes and dietary guidelines to ensure proper food handling and adherence to special dietary needs.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, mixers, and dishwashers, while maintaining proper sanitation protocols.
- Support food service by plating meals, serving residents, and ensuring timely delivery of meals in accordance with scheduled times.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including counters, utensils, and storage spaces, following health regulations such as JCAHO standards.
- Handle manual tasks such as heavy lifting and safe lifting practices when moving supplies or bulk ingredients.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of food products to prevent contamination or injury.
Skills
- Previous assisted living or nursing home experience is highly desirable for understanding resident needs.
- Strong background in food production, food handling, and meal preparation within the food industry or culinary settings.
- Knowledge of dietary department procedures and experience working with geriatric patients or in healthcare environments like hospitals or nursing homes.
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently during busy meal times.
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.
- Basic math skills for portioning ingredients and managing inventory accurately.
- Customer service orientation with a caring attitude towards residents’ comfort and nutritional needs.
- Familiarity with adhering to dietary requirements such as special diets or restrictions based on medical conditions or personal preferences.
- Understanding of workplace safety protocols including CPR certification is a plus for emergency preparedness.
