DIRECTOR OF MISSION INTEGRATION & SPIRITUAL CARE
JOB TITLE: Director of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care
Full Time Position - Exempt
PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care, as a member of senior management, has responsibility for strengthening the culture that reflects the mission and values of Mount St. Rita and Covenant Health. The Director works collaboratively with administration and other departments as s/he directs planning, implementation and evaluation of all mission education and integration initiatives within the facility. The Director instructs all staff and volunteers on the mission and values and promotes spirituality in the workplace which honors our Catholic tradition and respects other faith traditions. The Director establishes and supports relationships with the local Bishop, local churches, and the community in responding to community needs and our commitment to those who are poor and vulnerable. The Director ensures that the religious and spiritual care needs of patients/residents and staff are addressed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBIILITIES:
Mission Integration:
Ø Serves as a liaison to Covenant Health in all matters related to the Public Juridic Person (PJP), mission integration and serving as a ministry of the Church
Ø Promotes the mission, values and heritage of Mount St. Rita, Covenant Health and the charism of the founding order
Ø Directs initiatives that foster spirituality within the organization; Serves as the primary resource person for matters of an ethical or spiritual nature.
Ø Ensures that all staff and volunteers have access to initial orientation, and on-going formation and education on mission, values and what it means to serve as a ministry of the Church.
Ø Provides for education on the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services and access to appropriate ethics resources, e.g., system ethicist, Catholic Health Association educational resources, etc.
Ø Strengthens relationships with the local churches and community agencies to foster collaboration and response to community needs.
Ø Works within the facility, i.e. with a mission committee, to promote and celebrate our mission among residents, staff, and family members.
Ø Serves as liaison with Senior Vice President of Mission Integration on matters relating to mission integration, ethics and spiritual care.
Ø Pursues ongoing spiritual education and professional continuing education according to professional standards.
Ø Collaborates with facility leaders, facility and community spiritual care providers, employee experience colleagues, social services team members and others to integrate the mission.
Ø Coordinates the social accountability monitoring and reporting, including coordinating the facility’s annual stewardship and community benefit reports.
Ø Promotes ethical behavior and responds to any employee concerns regarding violation of the Standards of Conduct. Follows work assignments, and/or work schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks.
Ø Participates in Covenant Health education and formation programs and designated committee meetings.
Ø Coordinates periodic Ministry Identity Assessment in conjunction with Covenant Health and works with the local leadership to develop a plan in response to findings from the assessment.
Ø Prepares, plans and manages the department budget as approved.
Ø Serve on, participates in and attends various committees of the facility as required and appointed by the Administrator.
Ø Maintains excellent working relationships with all disciplines. Collaborates as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Chaplain Role
Ø Visits residents upon admission and assesses their spiritual needs and assures regular continuing visits.
Ø Attending interdisciplinary care meetings and sets goals for meeting the spiritual needs of the patients and residents.
Ø Maintains the chapel as a sacred space.
Ø Prepares/coordinates religious services to include Mass, sacraments, other worship services, healing services, memorial services, etc., to meet the spiritual needs of all residents and patients.
Ø Coordinates visits for appropriate religious personnel including priests, ministers, rabbis, and lay ministers/visitors.
Ø Provides comfort and spiritual support for residents, their families, and staff, especially during times of crisis, loss, and end-of-life.
Ø Provides spiritual support to colleagues as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ø Completed a graduate-level degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or spirituality from an accredited academic institution.
Ø Certification as a chaplain through an accrediting body (NACC or APC), preferred. Has completed a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or is in process.
Ø Substantial knowledge of and commitment to support the social and moral teachings of the Catholic Church
Ø Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to communicate and apply the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services
Ø Proven leadership experience, including program planning and implementation.
Ø A minimum of 3 years of mission integration/chaplaincy work or related experience preferred.
Ø Possesses the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
Ø Remains in good standing within the Catholic Church, as evidenced by ecclesiastical endorsement.
Ø Possesses an ability to bring joy and to lift the spirits of patients, residents and employees.
