About Us

Ocean Cleaners is a trusted dry cleaning and garment care business serving DMV communities. We take pride in delivering quality, care, and professionalism to every customer. As we grow our DC location, we're looking for a skilled seamstress to join our team and expand our in-store alterations offerings.

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced seamstress to operate as an independent contractor out of our DC location. You will handle all in-store alterations — from hemming and tailoring to repairs and restyling — and earn 50% of every dollar your work generates. The more you produce, the more you earn.

What You'll Do

Perform a full range of garment alterations and repairs (hemming, taking in/letting out seams, zipper replacements, patching, restyling, etc.)
Consult with customers directly to understand their alteration needs and set accurate expectations
Inspect garments and provide honest assessments of feasibility and turnaround time
Deliver completed work on time and to a high standard of quality
Keep your workstation clean and organized

Schedule & Availability

Minimum 4 days per week at the DC location
Required hours: 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM on scheduled days
Flexibility on which days of the week, to be agreed upon with management

What We're Looking For

Proven experience in garment alterations — this is not an entry-level role
Proficiency with industrial sewing machines and hand-sewing techniques
Ability to work across a wide variety of fabrics and garment types (formal wear, everyday clothing, uniforms, etc.)
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
Good communication and customer-facing skills
Ability to manage your own workload and meet turnaround commitments
All tools and equipment are provided at the store

Compensation Details

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You will receive 50% of the revenue generated from all alterations you complete. Pay is issued weekly. There are no guaranteed minimums; your earnings are tied directly to volume and quality of work.
