Job Type: Contract / Freelance

Location: Washington, DC (statewide, depending on assignment)

Job Description:

We are seeking qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to provide professional interpreting services across Washington, DC and the surrounding areas . Interpreters will facilitate effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing participants in a variety of settings, including community, medical, educational, and business environments.

Assignments may vary in length and setting, offering interpreters flexible opportunities to support accessibility and communication within the community.

Responsibilities:

Provide accurate interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with the RID Code of Professional Conduct
Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant terminology and context when available
Work collaboratively with Deaf Interpreters or interpreting teams when needed

Qualifications:

RID certification preferred
State licensure or eligibility to work as an interpreter in Washington, DC
Experience interpreting in community, medical, or educational settings is a plus
Strong knowledge of Deaf culture and professional interpreting standards
