Full Job Description

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING:

Core Responsibilities

Legislative & Policy Portfolio Management

Lead and execute the Congressman’s legislative priorities within assigned issue areas, including trade, labor, and small business.
Draft legislative memos, talking points, constituent responses, and briefing materials.
Work with staff to develop and advance legislation.
Maintain deep knowledge of policy developments, legislation, and committee activity relevant to assigned portfolio.

Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations

Meet with constituents, advocacy organizations, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to inform policy development.
Build and maintain relationships with key partners.
Identify strategic opportunities for the office through stakeholder engagement and coalition building.
Support the Office's Constituent Advisory Council program, providing legislative support and updates to assigned councils.
Serve as a point of contact for stakeholders on assigned issue areas.

Legislative Strategy & Office Coordination

Work closely with senior staff o support development and execution of legislative strategy.
Coordinate with the Public Advocacy team to identify constituent needs and translate them into policy priorities.
Collaborate across teams to ensure alignment between legislative work, constituent services, and communications.

Communications & Message Development

Collaborate with the Communications, Creative, and Public Engagement teams to identify opportunities to highlight legislative priorities and successes.
Contribute policy content for press, digital, and public messaging.
Ensure consistency between legislative work and external communications.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior Capitol Hill experience.
Experience handling trade, labor, or small business issues.
Experience engaging with stakeholders or supporting legislative efforts.

Working Conditions

Based in the Washington, D.C. office.
Requires extended hours as needed to support the legislative schedule or breaking news events.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation

Annual salary of $58,000 to $70,000, paid monthly (commensurate with experience)
Quarterly bonuses up to $5,000 based on performance evaluations

Briefing memo for a Member of Congress demonstrating the ability to synthesize complex information, present options, and provide clear recommendations for decision-making.
Formal letter such as a Dear Colleague letter or correspondence with a federal, state, or local government agency, demonstrating clarity, tone, and professional judgment.
Remarks prepared for a hearing, markup, or legislative, demonstrating the ability to convey substance clearly and effectively in a congressional setting.
Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work and may be drawn from prior professional experience or prepared specifically for this application. Samples may be redacted as appropriate.

You will also be asked to answer three prompts as part of the initial evaluation process:

What experience do you have using AI tools, and what is your interest and comfort incorporating them into your workflow? (200 words max)
What are three recommendations you would offer to the Office of Rep. Greg Stanton to improve its legislative advocacy or promotion? (200 words max)

Timeline

Applicants selected to advance should expect initial virtual interviews to begin in early May, with in-person interviews in Washington, D.C. to follow shortly thereafter. The interview process may include multiple rounds and are likely to include in-person writing assessments and other evaluations relevant to the position. Timelines are subject to change based on office needs.
