Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Employment Specialist to coordinate initiatives that connect job search participants with the employer community and cultivate strong employer relationships to identify job opportunities and generate leads. Additionally, this role supports the creation and ongoing refinement of innovative strategies that advance adult education and empower individuals in the target population to achieve their employment goals.

Duties

Locates job openings for clients based on their skills and abilities; Works closely with job search facilitators to ensure the service reflects participants’ needs, abilities, and employment goals.
Conducts the intake assessment process to ensure consistency in the intake process and suitability and/or eligibility of clients for the program.
Coaches, supports, and monitors clients in the initial stages of employment and maintains relations with employers. Works with participants regularly on their job search progress and activities.
Build and maintain trust and rapport with clients to ensure employment and/or education goals.
Identifies, develops, recruits, and maintains relationships with employers in a variety of industries to ensure successful job development for clients.
Coordinates and conducts marketing/outreach activities to community agencies, organizations, and employers.
Keeps up with changes in the field and maintains current knowledge of the DC job market and labor trends, including job search strategies and techniques.
Assists in the development and maintenance of innovative programming that achieves the highest standards in employment practices and adult education.
Performs a variety of administrative and clerical functions related to the job development program by compiling client data and information, producing statistical reports, maintaining files, program data, and documents, and ensuring that reports, data, and information are collected and submitted within required time frames for reports.
Assist in the development of a plan for social services for Ward 7 residents. Attend community/neighborhood meetings and events to keep abreast of new and/or changing programs, projects, and community resources.
Consistently maintain strong relationships with community agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and service providers to advocate for clients and obtain critical resources. Represent the collaborative at community-based events and meetings to strengthen partnerships and visibility.

Work Experience

Five to seven years of experience working in the field of job placement, career counseling/development.
Must have a successful record of placing applicants in the workforce and knowledge of job placement methods and best practice procedures; Able to accurately assess the client's professional strengths to determine suitable recruitment strategies and connect to job opportunities.
Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with employers, staffing agencies, and other key partners.
Must understand the issues facing Ward 7 residents and be familiar with community engagement and outreach strategies, including strict confidentiality practices.
Able to work effectively with community residents and community-based organizations.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations, making decisions, defining and assessing problems, identifying or recommending solutions, and establishing facts to draw valid conclusions.
Organize and prioritize multiple tasks, and plan and conduct workshops and presentations.

Work Environment /Travel

Local travel; personal vehicle required
Indoor office environment 50% of the time; in the Ward 7 community, and other agencies and organizations 50% of the time.
