Full Job Description

The Construction Manager (CM) is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of assigned construction projects from conception to completion, ensuring delivery in a timely and cost-effective manner. The CM collaborates on the creation of a comprehensive Project Management Plan for each project, establishing budgets, construction schedules, schedules of values, necessary permits, regulatory paperwork, and customer-required documentation. All work must be performed in strict compliance with building codes and safety regulations.

Additionally, the CM coordinates with NSC administrative personnel to facilitate seamless communication between customers, subcontractors, and suppliers, managing the unique administrative compliance requirements of each project. As a field leader, the CM directs both in-house crews and subcontracted personnel, exercising strong leadership skills to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

· Plan, implement, and manage assigned construction projects in accordance with established priorities, corporate goals, and contract specifications.

· Assist in creating detailed project management plans, establishing critical milestones, deliverables, and the Schedule of Values (SOV).

· Work dynamically with the internal team and subcontractors to execute the project plan as designed, providing real-time updates and resolving emerging problems or field issues promptly.

· Oversee construction sites, subcontractors, and workers daily to enforce strict quality control and comprehensive safety standards.

· Ensure all construction activities are executed and documented in accordance with contract documents, approved procedures, and sound engineering practices.

Financial & Cost Management

· Partner with the NSC Estimator to develop comprehensive cost and pricing models that comply with the project scope of work and reflect industry best practices.

· Negotiate subcontractor and vendor pricing, ensuring that workmanship is of the highest quality and fairly priced to meet corporate performance standards and financial targets.

· Maintain strict project cost and change controls, managing the project budget and accounting records in compliance with relevant NSC procedures.

· Facilitate change order estimating, submittals, and contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors.

· Coordinate and monitor schedule updates, invoice approvals, and material submittals.

Leadership & Progress Reporting

· Manage, mentor, and evaluate the performance of assigned subordinate NSC field staff.

· Drive work performance, labor productivity, and the progress of both in-house and subcontractor construction schedules.

· Partner with Project Coordinators to facilitate and review weekly and monthly project status updates, ensuring precise alignment on percentage completion, revenue, expenditures, current shifts, and potential fiscal impacts while maintaining an active field presence..

· Attend client meetings as required to represent NSC and manage stakeholder expectations.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications & Preferences

· Proven experience in construction project management, field leadership, or a supervisory role within the construction industry.

· Experience in both utility underground construction and general construction is highly preferred.

· Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, schedules of values, and change orders.

· Proficient in construction technologies; experience with Procore or similar construction project management software is highly preferred.

· Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively lead diverse field crews and interface with clients.

Travel & Physical Requirements

· Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable personal transportation, as regular travel to various active project sites, vendor locations, and client meetings is required.

· Ability to safely navigate, inspect, and work within active and demanding construction environments.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
