Full Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for providing leadership to support the development and maintenance of a peaceful, respectful school climate that is conducive to learning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Building the Learning Environment

Ensures the implementation of the School’s Comprehensive Discipline Policy and the Code of Conduct.
Responsible for supervising students who are referred for Redirection.
Develops and supervises behavioral management programs for students.
Conducts classroom meetings, small group meetings, peace coach and leadership training and other proactive interventions
Disseminates successful school policies, rules and procedures that support the learning environment throughout the school community among students, parents, faculty and staff.
Develops and implements rituals and ceremonies that celebrate the core values that are consistent with learning environment goals.
Models appropriate interaction and relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff to ensure consistency with the school’s mission, core values and academic goals.

Building the Community

Develops, coordinates and implements procedures and activities to ensure optimum parent involvement and support for students and the general school program
Communicates regularly and effectively with students’ families
Collaborates with community resources to support student and school needs
Seeks and develops partnerships with community organizations that will enhance the achievement of the school’s mission and goals
Working with the After School Director, ensures that out-of-school time programs and activities provide appropriate and effective academic, enrichment, recreational and other support for students and their families
Conducts school climate surveys, parent, student and staff satisfaction groups, focus groups, etc.
Instruction
Ensures a positive and appropriate earning environment that is stimulating, active, safe, and respectful and that incorporates language immersion, community service learning and project-based instruction.
May teach/cover some classes

Program Management

Coordinates with the instructional staff to develop school-wide community service learning projects and activities.
Under the supervision of the CEO and Assistant Principal, plans, coordinates and manages the summer school program.
Supervises all out-of-school time activities and programs.
Supervises the Parent Coordinator to ensure a comprehensive program of parent involvement, education and support
Ensures that the school maintains a volunteer services program to support school needs

Finance and Resource Development

Seeks and acquires funds and in-kind and volunteer services to ensure a peaceful, respectful school climate that is conducive to learning.
Assists in preparing the annual budget
Identifies and makes recommendations to the Director of Education for the purchase of appropriate materials, equipment and supplies that help support creation and maintenance of a peaceful, respectful school climate.

Communication and Marketing

Communicates the School’s mission and core values to staff, faculty, parents, students and the community.
Builds commitment to the school’s mission and core values among staff, faculty, parents, students and the community.

Managing Daily Operations

Assists the Assistant Principal in implementing school policies and procedures for supervising students throughout the day; collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure safe movement of students and other individuals throughout the building and on school-sponsored activities outside the building (i.e., field trips, recess, activities within the community).

Requisite Skills and Experiences: · Associates degree (required) Bachelor's degree (preferred), behavioral sciences or related field. Minimum of two years of education, community agency or non-profit organization leadership experience. Knowledgeable of a variety of peace education/ conflict resolution strategies. Have a personal commitment to seeking the best for all Richard Wright Schools and the extended school community. Commitment to and capacity to model the principles of respect, acceptance, non-violence and enthusiasm for learning that we seek to instill in students and their families.

This role requires a dynamic leader who is passionate about enhancing the student experience through innovative programs and services. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be adept at problem-solving, and have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by today's middle and high school students.
