Full Job Description

Performs the primary function of a Registered Professional Nurse is assessing, planning, implementing, educating and evaluating a designated group of patients during the perioperative period in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies.
Responsible for managing all assigned supplies and equipment on the unit.
Responsible for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team.
Performs duties in a manner consistent with St. Luke’s Hospital mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities:

1. Performs pre-operative patient assessment
2. Coordinates all aspects of patient care following the Nursing process using age specific knowledge relevant to the patient served
3. Creates and maintains a sterile field
4. Documents all aspects of patient care
5. Plans/participates in patient discharge from the Operating Room
6. Participates in checking/maintaining supplies and equipment, and the physical environment
7. Participates in committees, educational activities, special projects
8. Supervises other team members in delivery of patient care
9. Performs clerical/computer tasks (exclusive from the Perioperative Record) 10. Performs all other duties as assigned

Employee is required to walk continuously and sit occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) load occasionally and heavy (50lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to perform simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive ability, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required. May be needed to work any shift due to 24-hour day, 7 days per week operation. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens.

(Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%)

The most significant of duties are included, but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.

Nursing Degree required
