Full Job Description

Position Summary: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and administrative leader of Mariposa House, providing overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the organization. This role has ultimate responsibility for organizational oversight, program direction, policy development, fiscal management, personnel leadership, fundraising strategy, and external relations.

The Executive Director works in close partnership with the Board of Directors to advance the agency’s mission, ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, funding, and contractual requirements, and uphold a trauma-informed, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture. This position directly supervises staff and is accountable for long-term sustainability, organizational stability, and the continued development and expansion of high-quality survivor services across the service region.

Essential FunctionsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential responsibilities listed below.

Leadership & Organizational Management

Provide leadership, oversight, and direction for all programs, services, and daily operations.
Ensure the organization fulfills all legal, contractual, accreditation, and grant compliance obligations.
Maintain and implement agency policies and procedures, including confidentiality, mandatory reporting, and ethical standards.
Lead organizational development and change management efforts to support responsible growth and sustainability.
Promote a trauma-informed, equity-centered approach across all programs and decision-making.

Fiscal Management

Oversee financial health and long-term sustainability of the organization.
Develop and manage annual budgets, financial reporting, compensation planning, and audits in partnership with the Board and fiscal staff.
Ensure compliance with fiscal policies, funding requirements, and grant management standards.
Lead efforts to diversify funding streams through grants, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.

Program & Policy Development

Develop, implement, and evaluate programs consistent with mission, contractual requirements, and community need.
Ensure programs remain survivor-centered, accessible, compliant, and high-quality.
Maintain required certifications, professional development, and training standards for self and staff.
Support advocacy efforts, direct services, prevention initiatives, and community education.

Board Relations & Governance

Maintain regular, transparent communication with the Board of Directors.
Provide data, reports, recommendations, and strategic input to support informed board governance and decision-making.
Assist the Board in strategic planning and policy development.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to supervisory and program staff.
Foster a collaborative, strengths-based workplace environment that supports professional development and staff well-being.
Support staff in managing vicarious trauma and promote employee retention.
Uphold high standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.

Community & Public Relations

Serve as the public representative and spokesperson for the organization.
Maintain strong relationships with community partners, funders, law enforcement, healthcare providers, Tribes, social service agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Lead outreach efforts across the service region, including Forks, Hoh River, La Push, Beaver, Clallam Bay, Neah Bay, and surrounding areas.
Represent the agency in local, regional, and statewide coalitions or workgroups.
Driving to and from meetings throughout the state.

Secondary Functions

Secondary functions of this position include:

Participate in agency-wide on-call responsibilities as scheduled.
Provide occasional coverage during staff vacancies or leaves of absence.
Assist with outreach events, fundraising activities, and community engagement efforts.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed to support organizational success.

Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse staff, survivors, community partners, and stakeholders.
Deep understanding of trauma-informed practices and the impacts of oppression on survivors.
Skill in program development, service delivery oversight, and compliance.
Strong analytical, budgeting, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to balance administrative responsibilities with mission-driven, field-based leadership.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression values.

Education & Experience:

Master’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Bachelor’s degree required; equivalent experience will be considered.
5–8 years of experience in a senior management or leadership role; nonprofit experience preferred.
Experience supporting survivors of domestic or sexual violence or working in victim-services organizations strongly preferred.
Experience managing grants, contracts, and multi-funded programs.
Experience supervising staff and leading diverse teams.

Certificates and/or Licenses:

Valid Washington State Driver’s License and auto insurance required.
Must meet all training requirements for advocacy and direct service roles as required by Washington State and agency policy.

Physical Requirements:

Sit or stand for extended periods
Work at a computer for prolonged periods
Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally
Drive throughout the region for meetings, court support, outreach, and partnership activities
Communicate clearly in person and over the phone
Work occasional evenings and weekends

Equipment / Tools Utilized:

Duties of this position will require regular use of these types of equipment and tools:

Standard office equipment including computer, phone, copier, and printer
Agency vehicles or personal vehicle for outreach and meetings
Communication tools for crisis response and on-call coverage

Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential responsibilities of this job, the employee may experience the following environmental conditions at the frequency indicated:

Work performed primarily in an office environment, occasional exposure to outdoor conditions during outreach.
Regular travel throughout service region for meetings, partnerships, and outreach.

NOTE: Mariposa House may assign other duties that are reasonably related to the position and organizational needs.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $108,000.00 per year
