Position Summary
MadRag is seeking a highly accomplished Regional Manager to lead the sales, people, merchandising, and operational performance of a multi-state store region.
The Regional Manager is a senior field leader responsible for translating company strategy into exceptional store execution and measurable business results. This role oversees District Managers and their teams while maintaining a strong connection to store-level performance, customer experience, and merchandise execution.
The ideal candidate is a merchandise-driven leader who understands fast fashion, reads the business through data and observation, and can quickly identify opportunities and implement practical solutions. This person must be equally comfortable analyzing regional financial performance, coaching leaders, reviewing store presentation, reacting to fashion trends, and working directly alongside store teams.
The Regional Manager serves as a critical business partner to executive leadership and the corporate office. They bring insight from the field, influence cross-functional decisions, and ensure that the region consistently delivers against sales, profitability, talent, merchandising, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Business Leadership
- Own regional sales, profitability, contribution, expense management, and operational performance.
- Lead the region to meet or exceed goals related to sales, comp performance, gross margin, payroll, shrink, store contribution, customer metrics, and other key performance indicators.
- Analyze regional and district-level financial results, business trends, store performance, and market opportunities to identify priorities and create action plans.
- Establish clear expectations and accountability for District Managers and store teams.
- Regularly review performance by store, market, product category, and business opportunity.
- Make informed, timely decisions in a fast-paced and constantly changing retail environment.
- Communicate regional priorities, results, challenges, and opportunities to executive leadership and corporate partners.
Merchandise and Fashion Leadership
- Serve as the regional champion for merchandise, fashion, and customer relevance.
- Ensure stores are receiving, presenting, and selling product with urgency and accuracy.
- Partner closely with merchandising, planning, allocation, and visual teams to communicate field insights and improve product flow and sell-through.
- Monitor product performance, inventory levels, replenishment, markdowns, and store-specific opportunities.
- Translate current fashion trends, customer preferences, local market needs, and competitive activity into actionable selling strategies.
- Ensure that merchandise is presented in a compelling, trend-right, commercially productive manner.
- Conduct regular store visits to evaluate product placement, outfitting, visual standards, inventory opportunity, and overall customer experience.
- Drive speed, flexibility, and responsiveness to changing trends, weather, events, and customer demand.
Leadership and Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop District Managers to become stronger business leaders and people leaders.
- Build a high-performing leadership team through recruitment, succession planning, performance management, recognition, and development.
- Identify high-potential talent and create meaningful development plans and career pathways.
- Ensure District Managers effectively recruit, onboard, train, coach, and retain Store Managers and store teams.
- Foster a people-first culture based on trust, accountability, inclusion, transparency, and respect.
- Create an environment where teams feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute.
- Provide consistent feedback, recognize accomplishments, and address performance concerns promptly and fairly.
- Develop leadership bench strength throughout the region and maintain succession plans for key positions.
Field Execution and Store Operations
- Ensure consistent execution of company standards across all stores in the region, including sales floor presentation, customer service, inventory management, payroll, cash handling, safety, and loss prevention.
- Conduct frequent store visits and business reviews to assess execution, coach leaders, and follow up on priorities.
- Set the expectation that leaders are visible, hands-on, and actively engaged on the sales floor.
- Ensure stores are staffed appropriately to maximize customer service, productivity, and sales.
- Partner with Store Operations, Human Resources, Loss Prevention, and other corporate teams to resolve issues and improve execution.
- Drive accountability for operational discipline while maintaining flexibility appropriate to a fast-fashion business.
- Identify process gaps and recommend practical improvements that increase productivity and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable employment, safety, and operational requirements.
Customer and Market Leadership
- Maintain a deep understanding of regional customers, communities, competitors, shopping centers, and market dynamics.
- Monitor competitor pricing, product, promotions, presentation, customer experience, and traffic-driving initiatives.
- Ensure each store has a clear understanding of its local customer and market opportunity.
- Drive store teams to create engaging, welcoming, and relevant shopping experiences.
- Use customer feedback and field observations to identify opportunities to improve product, service, and store execution.
- Encourage local market awareness while maintaining consistent brand standards.
Communication and Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as the primary field leader and communication link between executive leadership, corporate teams, District Managers, and stores.
- Provide clear, timely, and actionable communication to the region.
- Partner with corporate leaders to develop and execute regional initiatives, launches, promotions, and strategic priorities.
- Bring forward field observations, customer insights, competitive intelligence, and recommended solutions.
- Ensure corporate strategies are understood and executed effectively at the store level.
- Create a culture of open communication, accountability, collaboration, and follow-through.
Qualifications
- Approximately 5+plus years of multi-store apparel retail leadership experience, preferably in fast fashion, off-price, specialty retail, or another high-volume, rapidly changing environment.
- Experience leading a large, geographically dispersed store portfolio, preferably across multiple districts or states.
- Prior experience managing, mentoring, or developing District Managers or equivalent senior field leaders.
- Strong understanding of apparel merchandising, product flow, visual presentation, inventory management, and customer experience.
- Proven ability to drive sales, profitability, productivity, and operational excellence across multiple locations.
- Demonstrated success building high-performing teams and developing leadership bench strength.
- Strong business acumen, including the ability to interpret financial statements, KPIs, payroll, expenses, inventory, and store contribution.
- Highly analytical and able to turn data and field observations into clear priorities and practical action plans.
- Strong recruiting, networking, coaching, and performance-management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfortable working in a scrappy, entrepreneurial, hands-on environment with limited hierarchy and changing priorities.
- Ability to operate with urgency, sound judgment, flexibility, and a strong sense of ownership.
- Must be willing and able to travel approximately 60%–70% of the time, including overnight travel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail reporting systems preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
