Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Benefits Specialist to provide advanced-level public benefits counseling, Medicare education, and community outreach services.

This leadership role supports the Regional Coordinator in overseeing Information & Referral and Medicare counseling caseloads while mentoring volunteers and ensuring program excellence. The ideal candidate is confident delivering public presentations, skilled in data management and reporting, and passionate about serving older adults and individuals seeking public benefits assistance.

This is a non-exempt 35 hour a week position.

Key Responsibilities

Provide individualized Medicare and public benefits counseling in office and community-based settings
Manage and coordinate caseloads, including follow-up and ongoing client support
Conduct client screenings using approved federal and state tools
Deliver region-wide community presentations and professional in-service training
Coordinate, train, mentor, and support program volunteers
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in designated case management systems
Develop and update educational materials and outreach toolkits
Assist with compiling and analyzing monthly, quarterly, and performance reports
Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and organizational requirements
Participate in all required training, webinars, and meetings

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field OR 3–5 years of experience in a social service, healthcare, or community-based setting
Completion of Connecticut CHOICES Counselor certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
Certification in Marketing & Media Development
Professional credentials in Business Technology and Digital Productivity
Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance
Ability to travel throughout the service region

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
Experience coordinating volunteers or training staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a compassionate, professional approach
Excellent public speaking and adult education skills
Advanced written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital collaboration platforms
Experience with database management, reporting, and data analysis
Ability to translate data findings into actionable program insights

Work Environment

Combination of office, community, and field-based work (senior centers, partner sites, outreach events)
Occasional work in non-climate-controlled environments
Ability to lift and carry 5–10 pounds
