The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Community Access, Bureau of Child Support Services is seeking an Administrative Assistant 1 to join our team!

At Child Support Services, we help the families of Iowa successfully navigate and understand the importance of providing both financial and emotional support for their children by building relationships with the parents to ensure they are successful. We're seeking an exceptional individual who is respectful, positive, and passionate about supporting families throughout their child support journey. Hours, Work Location and Requirements:
This position is in the EPICS Office. This is a full-time opportunity, Monday – Friday with hours being from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Upon successful completion of the training period and with management approval, this position offers a possible hybrid work opportunity, working from home and office as scheduled. This position requires a driver’s license and the ability to travel on occasion.

Job Duties:

Obtain information from a wide variety of sources including written materials, telephone conversations, and computer databases and read and interpret the information as it pertains to the Child Support Services Program.
Read and comprehend complex instructions including federal, state and local laws, policy and procedures applicable to the Child Support Services program and apply it to child support casework.
Provide customer service and interact with people of various social, cultural, economic, and education backgrounds for the purposes of managing assigned casework and providing quality customer service to internal and external customers.
Analyze information objectively; use sound judgement and critical thinking to make a reasoned judgment.
Sort, scan, and index physical mail and retrieve electronic mail from e-mail system.
Respond to customer inquiries and provide detailed or complex answers verbally and in writing.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with:

Critical thinking skills and executing complex tasks independently.
Customer service, including de-escalation of conflictual or adversarial situations.
Excellent oral and written communication and report composition.
Teamwork, collaboration, and consultation.
Managing multiple deadlines.
Extreme accuracy in mathematical calculations and timelines.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in any field.

A total of four years of education (as described in number one) and/or full-time experience in accounting, secretarial, or office support work collecting, compiling, reporting, examining and/or editing numerical data; coding and qualifying people for benefits, licenses, or other transactions; preparing and keeping budgetary accounts and projections; organizing and implementing office support operations; advising on procedural processes; or other work that provided direct support and exposure to substantive agency programs, where one year of full-time experience is equal to 30 semester hours of education.

Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to 12 months of full-time work as a Secretary 2, Clerk Specialist, Public Service Supervisor, Accounting Technician (any level), Purchasing Assistant, or Human Resources Technical Assistant
