Full Job Description

The Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association (SCMWA) is the trade marketing organization for winery members in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. Our mission is to promote and enhance the AVA locally, regionally and nationally.

The Santa Cruz Mountains is one of California’s most distinctive wine regions, home to family-owned wineries producing world-class wines from mountain vineyards. We’re looking for a creative, organized Social Media Contractor to help grow awareness of the Wines of the Santa Cruz Mountains brand and engage wine lovers through compelling digital storytelling.

This is a flexible contract position ideal for a freelance social media professional with experience in hospitality, wine, tourism, or lifestyle brands.

Responsibilities:

Social Media Planning

· Develop a monthly editorial calendar aligned with organizational marketing goals, seasonal campaigns, winery events, and promotions.

· Recommend content themes and opportunities to increase engagement and audience growth.

Content Creation

· Create engaging social media content using existing photos, videos, and marketing assets provided by the organization.

· Write compelling, on-brand captions that reflect the personality and voice of the Santa Cruz Mountains wine region.

· Design graphics and simple promotional materials using Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.

· Edit short-form videos and Reels optimized for social media.

Publishing & Scheduling

· Schedule and publish content across Instagram, Facebook, and other appropriate platforms using tools such as Later.

· Maintain a consistent posting schedule and optimize posting times for engagement.

Community Management

· Monitor comments, direct messages, and audience interactions.

· Respond to inquiries in a timely, professional, and brand-appropriate manner.

· Foster conversations that build community, increase engagement, and strengthen brand loyalty.

· Escalate customer service issues or media inquiries when appropriate.

Qualifications

· Experience managing social media accounts for brands, nonprofits, tourism, hospitality, food & beverage, or wine businesses.

· Strong copywriting and visual storytelling skills.

· Proficiency with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.

· Experience with social media scheduling platforms such as Later.

· Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, and current social media trends.

· Basic video editing skills for Reels and short-form content.

· Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and meet monthly deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

· Passion for wine, food, travel, or destination marketing.

· Photography or videography experience.

· Knowledge of the Santa Cruz Mountains region is a plus.

Time Commitment

· Approximately 10–15 hours per month

· Flexible schedule with occasional availability around major events or campaigns.

Compensation

Contract position.
