Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Patient Account Specialist to join our dynamic team. The primary purpose of this position is assist patients internally and over the phone, daily mail, bank deposits, guarantor follow up, collections, patient demographics, scanning, and to provide support to our revenue cycle team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Duties

Promptly and professionally answers physician telephone calls. Routes calls appropriately.
Participate in regularly scheduled office meetings.
Serves as the primary person responsible for entering and verifying patient demographics and insurance information.
Generate bank deposit slips and makes remote cash/check deposits to the bank.
Maintain accounts receivable summary sheets.
Submits month end bank information to the accountant.
Submits required documentation with claims for payments via provider portal, fax, mail, or e-mail.
Identifies delinquent accounts, aging period and payment sources. Processes delinquent unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payors.
Participates with other team members to follow-up on denials until account balance is zero or account is turned over to collection agency.
Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone or mail.
Reviews accounts for possible collection agency assignment; makes recommendations to Revenue Cycle Manager.
Identifies delinquent accounts, aging period and payment sources. Processes delinquent unpaid accounts by contacting patients.
Assists patients with billing questions explaining financial policies, researching patient complaints/concerns and takes appropriate action to resolve them.
Responsible for self-pay patient process (telephone calls, payment plan arrangements, collection placement, completion of Estimate Tracking Spreadsheet)
USG Image search in EPIC for coders
Contact lawyers involved in third-party litigation; sends out lawyer statements/billing.
Document and upload all relevant correspondence to all patient accounts whether from patients, insurance carriers or vendors.
Other responsibilities as assigned. Subject to change.

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Pro.
Prefer two years of experience in customer service or reception, preferably in a health care environment.
Epic and health care insurance experience preferred.
