Position Description and Essential Functions
The Crossroads Kitchen Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, growth, profitability, and day-to-day operation of Crossroads Kitchen, which brings together Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Catering, Grab & Go, and other prepared food offerings into one cohesive team.
The Crossroads Kitchen Manager is responsible for breaking down traditional departmental silos and building a flexible, cross-trained team that works together to meet the needs of our customers and the business. This position leads through Crossroads Kitchen Leads, develops team members, establishes high standards for quality and service, and creates a culture of teamwork, accountability, efficiency, and pride.
The Crossroads Kitchen Manager operates Crossroads Kitchen as a business within Crossroads Market and is accountable for its sales growth, labor management, food cost, profitability, customer experience, and continued development.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead Crossroads Kitchen as one team, creating collaboration across Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Catering, Grab & Go, and other prepared food operations.
- Lead, coach, develop, and empower Crossroads Kitchen Leads to effectively manage daily operations and team members while consistently upholding and enforcing established standards and expectations across all shifts and work areas.
- Establish clear expectations and hold Leads and Associates accountable for performance, quality, productivity, customer service, teamwork, and food safety.
- Build a strong culture of teamwork, mutual respect, communication, accountability, urgency, and pride.
- Develop and maintain a cross-training program that allows Crossroads Kitchen Associates to work effectively across multiple areas of the Kitchen.
- Identify and develop high-potential employees for Lead and future management positions.
- Conduct regular Crossroads Kitchen team meetings, Lead meetings, coaching conversations, and performance reviews.
- Work with Corporate HR on recruitment, onboarding, retention, employee development, and performance management.
Financial & Business Management
- Develop the annual Crossroads Kitchen budget, sales plan, and business strategy in conjunction with the General Manager and Corporate leadership.
- Take ownership of Crossroads Kitchen financial performance, including: Sales, Gross margin, Labor expense and labor percentage, Food and ingredient costs, Waste and shrink, Inventory, Pricing, and Overall profitability
- Review P&L reports, sales reports, labor reports, product movement, promotional results, and other operating metrics and act based on results.
- Ensure recipes, ingredients, yields, costs, and retail pricing are accurately maintained in company systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, control costs, and increase profitability without sacrificing quality or customer experience.
Staffing & Scheduling
- Maintain overall responsibility for scheduling Crossroads Kitchen employees, utilizing sales history, production needs, catering events, seasonal demand, peak-time reporting, and other available data.
- Use cross-training and flexible staffing to maximize productivity, control labor costs, and maintain customer service and production standards.
- Work with Kitchen Leads to actively adjust staffing throughout the day, placing employees where they are most needed rather than staffing each area independently.
- Ensure staffing decisions are based on the needs of Crossroads Kitchen rather than the needs of any individual work area.
- Review and approve employee time-off requests while ensuring appropriate business coverage.
- Manage payroll and staffing levels to established labor and financial targets.
- Build staffing plans that provide appropriate coverage for weekends, holidays, special events, seasonal demand, and unexpected absences.
- Continually evaluate staffing needs and work with HR to recruit talented individuals who fit the Crossroads Kitchen culture.
Operations, Quality & Customer Experience
- Ensure consistent standards for product quality, freshness, taste, presentation, portioning, packaging, merchandising, cleanliness, and customer service throughout Crossroads Kitchen.
- Maintain strong daily execution across Rooster Road Deli, Scratch Street Bakery, Catering, Grab & Go, and other prepared food offerings.
- Ensure production is planned according to sales trends, customer demand, catering commitments, seasonal needs, and promotional activity.
- Oversee Crossroads Kitchen inventory, ordering, receiving, storage, and supplies.
- Ensure appropriate inventory levels while minimizing shortages, overproduction, spoilage, and waste.
- Establish and maintain standards for cleanliness, organization, equipment care, and safe work practices.
- Maintain a visible presence in the operation and work alongside the team when needed to support customers, production, or business demands.
Catering
- Provide overall leadership for Crossroads Catering, including both production and service.
- Oversee catering inquiries, customer meetings, proposals and quotes, order accuracy, event scheduling, production coordination, delivery/service, invoicing, and customer follow-up.
- Develop relationships with businesses, organizations, community groups, and customers to generate new catering opportunities.
- Ensure catering events consistently meet Crossroads standards for quality, presentation, professionalism, accuracy, and service.
- Evaluate catering menus, pricing, profitability, staffing, and operational processes on an ongoing basis.
Sales, Merchandising & Growth
- Develop strategies to grow Crossroads Kitchen sales, customer traffic, basket size, and profitability.
- Continually identify opportunities for new products, seasonal offerings, prepared meals, Grab & Go items, family meals, holiday programs, catering packages, and other revenue-generating concepts.
- Work with the General Manager and Marketing department to develop promotional calendars and marketing strategies for Crossroads Kitchen and its customer-facing brands.
- Provide timely and accurate information for weekly ads, social media, in-store signage, special promotions, and seasonal campaigns.
- Review promotional results and use performance data to improve future pricing, merchandising, and promotional decisions.
- Protect and grow the individual identities of Rooster Road Deli and Scratch Street Bakery while operating them as part of the unified Crossroads Kitchen team.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable food safety, sanitation, labeling, nutritional, Weights and Measures, FDA, Department of Labor, ADA, HACCP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all employees receive appropriate food safety and sanitation training.
- Maintain accurate ingredient, allergen, nutritional, recipe, pricing, and labeling information as required.
- Establish a culture in which food safety, cleanliness, and safe work practices are everyone's responsibility.
Growth & Innovation
- Continually look for opportunities to expand the role of Crossroads Kitchen within Crossroads Market and the surrounding community.
- Work with the General Manager, COO, Marketing Manager, and Corporate leadership to evaluate new business opportunities.
- Assist in investigating, developing, and launching potential wholesale production and distribution opportunities.
- Evaluate equipment, technology, processes, product lines, and facility improvements that could increase capacity, quality, efficiency, or profitability.

Reports To: General Manager
Direct Reports: Approximately 3–5 Crossroads Kitchen Leads
The Crossroads Kitchen Manager will also provide overall leadership to Crossroads Kitchen Associates and specialty positions, including positions such as Cake Decorators, Donut Fryers, Catering Service Staff, and other specialty roles.
