Full Job Description

A great UHY client is seeking an Accounting Manager to support accounting operations within a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on community impact throughout Southeast Michigan. This role will oversee accounting activities related to grants, gifts, and donor advised funds while leading a collaborative team and supporting ongoing operational and process improvement initiatives.

The Accounting Manager role is a hybrid position based in Detroit, MI, requiring approximately three days per week onsite. This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity offering strong benefits, leadership visibility, and the opportunity to contribute to an organization making a meaningful impact in the community.

Accounting Manager Responsibilities

Supervise and review the work of accounting and financial staff supporting grants, gifts, and donor advised funds
Support weekly payment processing activities
Reconcile incoming gifts, grants, and related transactions
Maintain and update fund balances and related accounting records
Create and maintain vendor and grantee records
Support purchase card administration, including account setup and maintenance
Assist with general ledger maintenance and account updates
Support Form 990 preparation and related accounting activities
Participate in month-end close processes and checklist completion
Assist with fund setup, updates, and retirements
Support process improvements and systems-related initiatives as needed

Accounting Manager Requirements

Nonprofit accounting experience required
Experience with grants accounting required
Experience with gifts and donor advised funds preferred
Prior management or supervisory experience required
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Systems implementation experience is a plus
Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, mission-driven environment
