Full Job Description

Position Summary

DeHart Recycling Equipment is seeking a SolidWorks Designer to support conveyor manufacturing at our Hazelwood, MO facility. The role centers on 3D SolidWorks modeling of in-house-built conveyors, with a secondary focus on 2D equipment and installation drawings for customer proposals, produced in SolidWorks 2D or AutoCAD, whichever best fits the request.

Key Responsibilities

3D Modeling - Conveyor Manufacturing

Create and maintain 3D SolidWorks models for custom conveyor designs and configurations built at our Hazelwood facility.
Produce fabrication-ready drawings, cut lists, and bill of materials (BOM) for the shop team.
Collaborate with the Shop Manager and Shop Lead on Conveyor build specifications and design revisions.
Support design troubleshooting during fabrication and assembly.

2D Drawings - Sales & Installation Support

Produce 2D equipment systems drawings for customer proposals and quotes (balers, conveyors & shredders) in SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
Produce 2D installation drawings that incorporate the customer's facility details for accurate on-site equipment placement.

Sales Team Support & Documentation

Field drawing requests from the full sales team (John Greider, Tim Newman, Dave Solomon, Sean Justen) and prioritize based on quote/proposal deadlines.
Maintain an organized, consistently named library of models, drawings, and templates.

Required Qualifications

2-3 years of 3D SolidWorks modeling experience (assemblies and BOM management) in a manufacturing or design environment.
Ability to produce 2D drawings from 3D models (in SolidWorks or AutoCAD) for customer proposals and installations.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication specs, and floor plans.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with reliable communication on turnaround times.

Preferred Qualifications

AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT experience, helpful for legacy DWG files (2Dwork can also be done in SolidWorks).
Experience designing sheet metal, weldments, or structural steel components.
Experience with industrial or materials handling equipment manufacturing.

Compensation & Work Environment

Competitive hourly rate based on experience, flexible part-time schedule.
Hybrid - primarily on-site at the Hazelwood shop for manufacturing collaboration, with remote flexibility for proposal/drawing work.
Occasional review of equipment photos or site measurements provided by sales/customers.

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days

Learn DeHart's 3D SolidWorks modeling standards and get up to speed on current conveyor designs
Begin producing fabrication drawings and BOMs for active shop builds.
Shadow a conveyor build to see how models translate into fabrication.

First 6 Months

Independently manage a steady stream of SolidWorks requests from the shop and sales teams.
Build a library of reusable conveyor models and templates.
Demonstrate consistent turnaround times aligned with fabrication and quoting deadlines.

First 12 Months

Be the shop and sales teams' go-to resource for conveyor design and installation drawings.
Maintain a well-organized, standardized model and drawing library.
Operate independently with minimal oversight, consistent with DeHart's design standards.

Experience:

design of sheet metal or structural steel components: 3 years (Preferred)
SolidWorks 3D modeling: 3 years (Required)
2D drawing from 3D models: 3 years (Required)
mechanical drawings, fabrication specs, and floorpans: 3 years (Required)
