Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall management of all activities in the Operations Department. This position develops, implements, and maintains plans and processes for the efficient operation of product procurement, receiving, reclamation, safe food handling, logistics, and safety. The Director of Operations is responsible for measurement of all processes, both internal and external, generating reports, and analyzing trends. The Director of Operations will establish and maintain a reputation for operational excellence, driven by a culture of productivity and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

· Lead and mentor a diverse team of operational professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance

· Sets clear expectations, provides guidance, provides regular feedback

· Motivates and leads a high-performing team whose responsibilities encompass operations, distribution, transportation, and warehouse operations

· Implement best processes and continuous improvement initiatives across various departments

· Assures Operations staff, including management, are properly trained to work in the Warehouse

· Ensures that all operational activities are carried out in compliance with the highest levels of local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations, including AIB compliance and Feeding America’s contractual obligations, policies, and procedures

· Responsible for upholding compliance standards in all areas involving AIB, USDA, Feeding Texas, Feeding America, TDA, Health Department, and all other entities regarding food safety

· Maintains, develops, documents SOPs to establish uniformity and strong processes to maintain acceptable food safety audit scores

· Analyze and streamline operational processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall productivity

· Proactively manages safety for all associates; immediately responds to any concerns and conducts proper follow up to ensure issues are effectively addressed

· Ensures that complete and accurate records are maintained of products received and distributed, including donated food, purchased food, and food from government programs

· Works together with the Logistics team for produce and retail delivery/pick up routes

· Conduct donor research, cultivation, and ongoing stewardship of new food donors with the goal of receiving more pounds per donation and more frequent donations

· Maintain and build upon relationships with food industry partners, production staff, and business community members, including face-to-face networking, in-person visits, meetings and presentations

· Efficiently handle donor correspondences

· Accepts and declines donation offers in a timely manner

· Work in close cooperation with all departments including operations, warehouse staff, and Agency Relations to coordinate timely pick-up, delivery, and receiving of donated product for special events

· Coordinate efforts with local and area farmers and produce vendors

· Collaborates with Programs team to build nutritious menus for initiatives targeting specific populations such as children, seniors, etc (ex: Mobile Distribution and Colonias)

· Serves as the Food Bank’s Disaster Response Manager as needed

· Assists with the efficient movement of product through receipting, storage, and distribution, maximizing space, resources, and avoiding waste or damage

· Oversees the coordination, set-up, and distribution of produce and other food products throughout Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron counties

· Performs other duties as assigned by the CEOs

QUALIFICATIONS

· Honesty, integrity, and commitment to fighting hunger in the Rio Grande Valley

· Must have clear understanding of and ability to articulate the mission of the FBRGV

· Minimum 7 years of progressive management experience

· Minimum 5 years of non-profit experience preferred

· Minimum 5 years supervising managers and large teams

· Minimum 3 years of maintaining professional vendor/supplier relationship

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Personal experience in community service and an understanding of the role of volunteerism

· Ability to politely be firm and decisive. Good judgement and discretions

· Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and agency personnel

· Ability to multitask under a variety of conditions

· General knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, Windows systems

· Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision

· Orientation to detail and accuracy

· Proficient in English and Spanish

· Possession of current Texas Class C driver’s license and access to personal vehicle. Must have clean driving record for at least three years prior to employment

· Availability to work evenings, nights, and/or weekends

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/BACKGROUND:

High School Diploma, Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Management, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Non-Profit Management preferred

ServSafe Safe Food Handler certificate preferred; or ability to obtain

skills/abilities:

· Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others.

· Able to communicate information clearly.

· Attentive to detail.

· Able to coordinate well with other departments and personnel.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and fingers.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Heavywork; exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 lbs. frequently and 5 lbs. constantly.

Pay: $70,000.00 per year
