Quality Assurance Manager Position Summary

CPG is seeking an experienced and dependable Quality Assurance Manager to lead the quality function at our SQF-certified flexible-packaging manufacturing facility.

This position is responsible for ensuring that products, processes, and quality systems meet customer specifications, internal standards, regulatory requirements, and SQF Edition 9 requirements. The Quality Assurance Manager will lead a team of nine Quality Assurance Technicians and work closely with production leadership to prevent defects, resolve nonconformities, and maintain consistent product quality.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, detail-oriented leader who uses data, technical knowledge, and effective communication to support production while protecting product quality and food safety.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, train, and develop a team of nine Quality Assurance Technicians.
Maintain and continuously improve the facility’s quality and food-safety systems.
Interpret and apply SQF Edition 9 requirements throughout plant operations.
Review existing quality standards, specifications, procedures, and policies.
Monitor printing, lamination, slitting, pouching, and other operations that affect product quality.
Verify the reliability and consistency of production processes and finished products.
Establish procedures for inspecting, documenting, escalating, and resolving quality issues.
Manage nonconforming materials and products, including containment, hold, disposition, and release activities.
Ensure customer specifications and quality requirements are understood and consistently met.
Review and investigate customer complaints, facilitate cross-functional corrective-action teams, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented, verified, and sustained to close process gaps and prevent recurrence.
Identify quality trends by collecting and analyzing production, inspection, defect, and complaint data.
Report quality concerns and equipment malfunctions to production leadership for immediate action.
Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, statistical reviews, and supporting documentation.
Partner with production teams to develop proactive solutions that improve quality without compromising food safety or customer requirements.
Report quality performance, trends, risks, and corrective-action status to corporate leadership.
Support customer, regulatory, certification, and third-party audits.
Communicate with auditors and external quality representatives during on-site inspections.
Ensure compliance with applicable customer, legal, regulatory, GMP, and food-safety requirements.
Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and a strong quality culture throughout the facility.

Qualifications and Skills

Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Manager, Quality Manager, or in a comparable leadership role.
Flexible-packaging, printing, lamination, slitting, or converting experience strongly preferred.
Experience leading quality technicians or inspectors in a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of quality-assurance methodologies, quality-control systems, and manufacturing standards.
Working knowledge of SQF Edition 9 requirements and their practical application.
Experience with internal audits, external audits, corrective actions, root-cause analysis, and nonconforming-product controls.
Strong numerical, analytical, and statistical skills.
Ability to interpret quality data and turn findings into practical corrective and preventive actions.
Excellent attention to detail and a results-driven approach.
Strong organizational, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Reliable, trustworthy, and capable of making objective quality decisions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality-related databases or systems.
Ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, customer service, corporate leadership, customers, and external auditors.
