First, the honest part.
Most front desk jobs are answering phones and scheduling. This one is that, plus a lot more, and the "more" is the actual job.
You will hold a baby so a mom can get adjusted. Twenty minutes later you'll be reconciling a billing error. An hour after that you'll be wiping down a room and writing a handwritten card to a family whose kid just started sleeping through the night for the first time in seven months.
If you need your work to stay in one lane, this will make you crazy. If that variety sounds like a good day, keep reading.
What we actually do here
We're a chiropractic office, but not the kind you're picturing. No angry old men, no crack-and-go. We work with pregnant moms, newborns, and kids. Two doctors, both moms themselves, both with advanced training in pediatric and nervous system care.
Most of the families who walk through our door have already been told by somebody that what they're seeing is normal and they should wait it out. The baby who won't sleep. The one who screams through every feeding. The toddler who melts down in a way that doesn't look like other kids.
We scan, we find what's actually going on, and we show them.
Our whole mission is that nobody leaves here still wondering. The moment we're chasing is when a mom exhales and says "okay, so I'm not crazy."
You are a big part of whether that happens. You're the first voice she hears on the phone and the first face she sees when she walks in scared with a car seat.
What you'll do
Run the front. Answer phones, schedule, manage the flow of the day. Learn to ask the right questions when someone calls about a fussy baby, because how that call goes determines whether she books.
Keep families on track. This is the most important thing on this list. Care plans only work if people actually come. You'll notice when someone's slipping, reach out before they disappear, and make it easy for them to stay. If you're the kind of person who remembers that Tuesday's 4pm mom said her mother-in-law was in town this week, you'll be great at this.
Handle the money conversations. Take payment for care plans, help with billing, work with insurance. Not fun, genuinely important, and we'll teach you.
Learn our systems. ChiroHD is our EHR. You don't need to know it. You do need to be the kind of person who learns software without being scared of it.
Hold babies. Regularly. Sometimes screaming ones.
Write the cards. Real handwritten notes to families. Birthdays, milestones, hard weeks. This is not busywork. It's one of the reasons people stay with us for years.
Answer texts. Fast, warm, and in our voice.
Keep the place clean and running. Rooms, laundry, restocking, organization. Everyone here cleans, including the doctors.
Make the doctors' days work. Anticipate, organize, catch the thing before it becomes a problem. The better you are at this, the more time they spend with families instead of on logistics.
Build the room. The feeling of this office is not an accident and it isn't only the doctors' job. When a toddler is losing it in the waiting room, you're the one who says "you're fine, we do this all day," and means it.
This is not for you if:
- You want to put on headphones and get through a task list. This job is people, all day.
- You need a clean job description. Some days are 80% admin. Some days you're holding a baby for an hour.
- Crying kids stress you out. There will be crying kids. Every single day.
- You're uncomfortable talking about money. You'll be quoting care plans and taking payment from families who are stretched.
- You need everything to be your idea. We've built a specific way of doing things and you'll need to learn it before you improve it.
- You're looking for a stepping stone. We're hiring someone who wants to be here in three years.
This is for you if:
- You notice things. The mom who's been crying in her car before she comes in. The dad who's skeptical and won't say so. The family who booked but hasn't confirmed.
- You follow through without being asked twice.
- You can be warm and organized at the same time. Most people are one or the other. We need both.
- You genuinely like moms and kids. Not "I'm fine with kids." You like them.
- You want to be good at something, not just employed. We'll invest in training you and we expect you to take it seriously.
- You want your work to matter to actual people whose names you'll know.
What you get
- $18-$21/Hour based on experience
- Part time, 21-24 hours per week
- Our schedule: Monday Tuesday and Thursday 9-12, 3-6 and Friday 9-1
- Complimentary chiropractic care for you and the family members in your house
- Real training. You will not be thrown at a phone and wished luck.
- A team that is small enough that what you do visibly matters.
