Full Job Description

Yes She Can, Inc. is seeking a Work Skills Instructor to support individuals ages 18–35 with autism and related disabilities as they build transferable job and life skills in a real-world retail environment.

The Work Skills Instructor plays a critical role in supporting young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities in a community-based retail training program. This position focuses on teaching vocational, social, and daily living skills to help participants achieve greater independence and employment readiness.

The Work Skills Instructor provides person-centered support in alignment with each participant’s individualized goals, OPWDD Life Plan, and Staff Action Plan. This role emphasizes skill-building, positive behavioral supports, and inclusion in a real-world work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide hands-on job coaching and positive reinforcement
Teach retail tasks, workplace behaviors, and customer service
Support social skills, emotional regulation, and problem-solving
Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and families
Help trainees work toward personalized goals
Observe, document, and track participant progress in accordance with program and Medicaid requirements
Utilize approved assessment tools to evaluate skill development and outcomes
Participate in staff meetings and ongoing trainings as required
Assist with retail operations, including customer interactions, merchandising, and cash handling
Perform other related duties as assigned to support program success

Compliance Responsibilities

Follow all policies and procedures in accordance with OPWDD and agency standards
Deliver services in compliance with Medicaid-funded Self-Direction guidelines, as applicable
Maintain accurate and timely documentation to support service delivery and billing
Complete and maintain all required trainings (e.g., Mandated Reporter, safety trainings)
Adhere to confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA
Report incidents, concerns, and changes in participant status in accordance with OPWDD guidelines
Promote and protect the rights of individuals receiving services

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
1–2 years of experience in job coaching, education, or program coordination
Knowledge of neurodiversity and inclusive employment practices
Strong communication and organizational skills

Compensation

$20–$25 per hour
