Responsibilities
- Choreograph routines for soloists and groups, ensuring routines are innovative, technically sound, and competition-ready
- Prepare students for local, regional, or national dance competitions through rigorous rehearsals and performance coaching
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively by applying behavior management techniques and fostering a respectful, motivating atmosphere
- Provide constructive feedback to students on their progress, encouraging growth in dancing skills and stage presence
- Incorporate diverse dance styles such as ballet, theater dance, and contemporary to broaden students’ versatility
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching dance, choreography, or coaching in a competitive environment
- Strong background in various dance disciplines including ballet, theater dance, and general dancing techniques
- Experience managing classrooms or group settings with children or adults effectively
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies suitable for working with children or special education populations
- Background in childhood development, childhood education, or childcare is advantageous

Competition Technique Instructor Overview
Join the DanceLife Studio team as a Competition Technique Instructor, where your passion for proper dance training will help develop strong, confident, and technically skilled dancers. We are seeking an experienced instructor to teach our foundational technique classes as well as Leaps & Turns classes for our competition dancers. This role is ideal for someone who values consistency, attention to detail, and helping dancers master the fundamentals that lead to long-term success.
Our Competition Technique Instructor will follow DanceLife Studio's established curriculum and class layouts while providing high-quality instruction, individualized corrections, and a positive learning environment that challenges dancers to continually improve. This paid position offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact by building the technical foundation that supports every dancer's growth.
Responsibilities
- Teach foundational technique and Leaps & Turns classes for competition dancers using DanceLife Studio's established curriculum and class structure.
- Follow the studio's class layouts, progressions, and training objectives to ensure consistency across all technique classes.
- Provide detailed corrections that improve dancers' alignment, strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, control, and execution.
- Emphasize proper technique, injury prevention, body awareness, and healthy training habits.
- Develop dancers' strength, flexibility, balance, musicality, and overall technical proficiency.
- Track student progress and communicate recommendations to studio leadership as needed.
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence.
- Manage classroom behavior professionally while maintaining high expectations and encouraging student growth.
- Arrive prepared for every class with music, equipment, and any necessary instructional materials.
- Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, competitions, performances, and studio events.
- Collaborate with the competition director and fellow instructors to ensure dancers are progressing consistently throughout the season.
Requirements
- Strong technical training in ballet and jazz, with additional knowledge of contemporary, lyrical, or other dance styles preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of dance technique, body alignment, flexibility, strength training, and progression of skills.
- Experience teaching leaps, turns, conditioning, and technical drills.
- Ability to follow an established curriculum rather than creating independent lesson plans.
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
- Passion for developing dancers through positive coaching and constructive feedback.
- Reliable, punctual, professional, and committed to maintaining a consistent teaching standard.
- Ability to work evenings (and occasional weekends during the dance season)
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
- Background check may be required.
