The Ray School is seeking to hire an Office Assistant & Receptionist who sincerely enjoys elementary students and their families. The ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate in a positive manner, have excellent phone skills, be proficient in various computer technology systems, and have strong organizational skills.
The Office Assistant & Receptionist’s duties include welcoming guests and greeting visitors of the school as well as enforcing basic entry security measures. This role also coordinates front-desk activities, including attendance, arrival/dismissal, distributing correspondence, answering and redirecting in-coming phone calls, other general office duties as needed.
Position begins 8/24/2026, open until filled.
This position is governed by the HSS/NEA-NH Union Agreement.
This is a school year position with an hourly range of $20.90 to $27.43 depending on education and experience.

General Purpose:
To support the administration and staff in maintaining a safe, effective, and positive learning environment for students by performing a full range of secretarial/clerical and administrative functions for the administration, faculty and staff, including performance of key school administrative tasks.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position:

The principal function of an employee in this position is to provide clerical support to the Main Office as well as provide customer service to the public.
General Responsibilities:

Greet and screen office visitors following school safety protocols
-
Answer incoming telephone calls. Forward calls and messages in a professional manner
-
Sorting incoming mail for staff and students
-
Assist in managing email addresses
-
Assist volunteers in filling out online volunteer form
-
Answer general inquiries or disperse general information on school procedure and policy
-
Ensure daily student and staff attendance records are accurate and up to date, as directed by building administration
-
Issue temporary and permanent bus passes, communicate dismissal changes as needed
-
Act as point of contact for transportation issues that arise related to arrival and dismissal of students

Assist with school mailings including

collection and deposit of student fees (by email)

Principal’s Weekly email to parents, students, & staff

Issue and file NH State Youth Employment Certificates (if applicable)

Maintain records and logs of

Assist with coordinating school sanctioned activities as assigned by building administration.

Act as backup to building administrative assistant, as directed by building administration.

Performs all duties in a professional and appropriate manner while interacting with students, parents, faculty, administration and co-workers. Perform other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience:

High School Graduate with at least one to three years experience in office setting

Expertise in computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Apps)

Personable and outgoing with ability to work well with students, staff,and the community
