Full Job Description

Job Summary

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Collection Assistant! In this vital role, you will perform blood collection procedures, assist with specimen processing, and ensure patient comfort and safety. Your expertise will help facilitate accurate laboratory testing and contribute to high-quality patient care. This paid position offers an engaging environment where your skills in phlebotomy, laboratory techniques, and patient service will make a meaningful difference every day.

Duties

Collect blood samples via venipuncture and capillary puncture using aseptic techniques to ensure specimen integrity.
Prepare and handle specimens according to laboratory protocols, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and transportation.
Assist with patient care by explaining procedures, providing reassurance, and monitoring vital signs when necessary.
Maintain accurate data entry into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, including patient information and specimen details.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, and handling to uphold safety standards and quality control.
Support laboratory staff with routine tasks such as inventory management of supplies and equipment maintenance.
Adhere to infection control protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and aseptic techniques during specimen collection.

Requirements

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from an accredited program; valid certification required.
Proven experience in blood sampling, venipuncture, and specimen handling within a clinical or hospital setting.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and medical terminology relevant to specimen collection.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate data entry and record keeping.
Ability to lift heavy objects safely (up to 50 pounds), stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Strong understanding of physiology, anatomy (including geriatrics and pediatrics), and vital signs monitoring.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification; hospital experience preferred.
Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach toward diverse patient populations.
Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and blood sampling protocols in clinical environments.
