Position Summary
West Point Fire Protection District is seeking motivated and experienced candidates for the position of Fire Captain.
The Fire Captain serves as a shift supervisor and company officer responsible for leading personnel during emergency responses, training activities, station operations, and community engagement efforts.
This position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team serving a rural community while participating in mutual aid and strike team operations throughout California.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead fire personnel during emergency and non-emergency operations
- Serve as Officer-in-Charge during assigned shifts and incidents
- Coordinate training programs, drills, and daily station activities
- Maintain apparatus readiness, equipment maintenance, and station operations
- Complete incident reports and departmental documentation
- Support fire prevention programs, public education, and community outreach
- Respond to fire, EMS, rescue, and mutual aid incidents
- Serve as Engine Boss on strike team and mutual aid assignments, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- EMT-Basic certification
- CPR and AED certifications
- California Class B Driver License or Firefighter Endorsement
- Driver/Operator 1A and 1B
- Qualified Engine Boss
- California State Firefighter I
- Minimum three (3) years experience as a Fire Engineer
- Qualified Instructor
- Company Officer 2A, 2B, and 2D
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who do not possess all listed qualifications may still be considered. Selected applicants may be required to obtain missing certifications within twelve (12) months of hire.
